Pros of working at Caribou Coffee

Free drink every day you work, 30% off everything else, free coffee beans every week.

Cons of working at Caribou Coffee

The district managers generally do not support their teams in any meaningful way. They are punitive and only care about money. It feels like they change things for no reason often, which often makes everyone’s day more difficult. They promote the wrong people.

Caribou Coffee benefits

My coworkers and store manager are amazing. You can find really great people that work at the entry level of this company.

What do you like best about Caribou Coffee's CEO and the leadership team?

I’m struggling to find one thing I like about the CEO or leadership. The only leadership that is positive is from store managers.

How would you improve Caribou Coffee's culture?

I would stop promoting from outside the company. I would make the district managers work in one of their stores twice a month. I would raise the starting wage across the company by $2.50

How did you prepare for the Caribou Coffee interview?

The most important thing to bring to a Caribou Coffee job interview is a positive, can-do attitude.

How does your compensation at Caribou Coffee compare to the industry average?

It’s comparable, but that means nothing when no one can afford to live while all the companies keep reporting more and more profit every year.

What's the diversity at Caribou Coffee like?

They act like they care, but it’s only to make a profit off of any social issue, health issue, celebration of different people in different months, etc.

What brings you the most joy at Caribou Coffee?

My coworkers and my regulars.

Past barista here! Loved working at the coffee shop I was at (locally owned), but pay wasn't great unfortunately. Ever have cappuccino making competitions when it's slow?

Haha no, we try to waste as little product as possible at our Caribou so we don't usually have opportunities to do stuff like that. Some people like making designs in the froth on lattes if we are serving people while it is slow.

Would you say that all of the pastries/other foods are served to customers within their expiration dates? What happens to all of the uneaten stuff?

We try our best to make sure everything stays as fresh as possible by the time you eat it. I'd suggest requesting to warm up our breads/scones in the oven before eating them. If something expires we throw it out no matter what (or if it's night, some people will occasionally take it home to eat), we don't want to risk somebody getting sick.

Do customers order using terminology from other cofee chains often?

The only terminology that I've heard commonly is when they use Starbucks cup sizes. Most people don't get angry over it, we know their sizes so we just change it to ours since we use Small/Medium/Large.

What is your most annoying customer?

Just the other night a man came into the cafe, picked up a newspaper that was on a table and threw it across the cafe right while I was in the middle of cleaning the floors (It was about an hour before closing). He came up to order and when I was looking behind my back he took 3 of the free samples we had out and he stayed ~10 minutes after we closed after we asked him to leave multiple times. One of my coworkers said that when she worked in a drive through, one of the customers threw the drink right back at her and burned her right after they received it without tasting it or anything.
