The history of healthcare in Caribou County began in 1923.
On September 5, 1924, Cary Memorial Hospital opened its doors.
A 25 bed replacement facility was built in 1969 along Alexander Reservoir.
The new hospital, which was renamed Cary Medical Center, opened in July 1978 with several unique features not found in many hospitals at the time.
In August 2021, county-owned Caribou Memorial Hospital transitioned to a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity called Caribou Medical Center.
