Minimum Requirements: Associate degree in laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medial laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR Equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489: 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include: six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; AND Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR At least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Must be registered or eligible for registration through a nationally recognized certification agency. The Supervisor Cardiac Cath Lab is accountable for directing and providing leadership to designated areas in Heart and Vascular services. This includes educational, clinical, and operational responsibility for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, and Peripheral Vascular Lab. This position will function as both a daily operational supervisor and clinician. This role will provide leadership in the areas of orientation, training, clinical oversight, completions of competencies, and primary oversight in the daily operation of the lab. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. Generalist techs are responsible for maintaining CAP defined competency in multiple departments including: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Andrology, Serology, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. Technical abilities and theoretical understanding must include the basic knowledge of the scope of practice and the laboratory. Techs are expected to competently perform the full menu of testing on blood, urine, and body fluids in accordance to CAP standards, following departmental polices, once training is completed. Testing and Quality Control performance includes, but is not limited to, rapid tests, cell differentials, automated Chemistry testing, blood gases, body fluid cell counts, automated and manual urine microscopy, blood typing, antibody screens, unit compatibility crossmatches, setting specimens for bacterial culture, rapid PCR testing, processing specimens for in house and reference testing. Techs are expected to maintain and support all CAP and Joint Commission accreditation standards in all work practices. Participation in the Lab Proficiency Testing submission is required by all testing personnel. Experience utilizing LIS for resulting patient specimens and documentation of results. Ability to multitask and prioritize patient testing in a dynamic work environment. Phlebotomy competencies are established and maintained by all technical staff.
