Certified Surgical First Asst (CVOR) - Operating Room

Job Summary: This position is for an open heart team member, so open heart experience is preferred. Busy Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular (CTV) programs. The CVOR CSFA works as a First Assist to Cardiovascular Surgeons. Some common procedures that the CSFA will first assist on are coronary artery bypass, aortic valve replacement and mitral valve surgery. 250 open heart cases a year. The CSFA will autonomously harvest vein for CVOR and vascular cases. Other job duties include assisting with all CTV cases. The CSFA plays a hands-on role in surgical procedures by controlling bleeding, suturing incisions and wounds, and intervening if complications arise.
The Operating Room has up to 12 anesthesia provided rooms, including 2 Open Heart rooms and 1 Urology room equipped with fluoroscopy. Specialty services include ENT/ORAL, General, Plastic, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Urology, Thoracic/Vascular, Neurosurgery, Pain, Open Heart, Robotics and endoscopic, and minimally invasive surgery by specialty. The Operating Room strives to meet the surgical needs of the surrounding counties and its physicians by providing compassionate, high quality surgical services ranging from ambulatory procedures to high acuity procedures for adults and pediatrics.

Minimum Requirements:
One to two years of CVOR experience is required.
Mainly focused on CVOR, Vascular, and Thoracic services.
Robotic experience would be a plus.
Knowledge of current trends and techniques in nursing.
Possesses the ability to relate effectively to patients, their families, physicians, staff, and all others using proper channels of communication.
Recognizes the importance of being a professional role model for others.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/ area's/ department's policies and procedures.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current North Carolina EMT credential.
Minimum of at least one year of experience as a EMT is preferred.
Have and maintain a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of North Carolina.
All personnel operating a CarolinaEast owned ambulance must have a minimum of three years' driving experience.
Ability to drive an ambulance safely and efficiently.
Successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) course within one year of hire.
Maintenance of EVD certification; required EVD refresher course every two years.
Current AHA BLS and PHTLS required.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

The Anesthesia Technician assists medical professionals through the preparation of equipment and supplies for the completion of medical procedures under anesthesia. Working under close supervision, this role supports the care team to deliver superior care to patients of all ages.
Essential Job Function
* Assists in determining the supply and equipment needs for procedures so that there will be sufficient supply for operating room needs.
* Handles the setup and calibration of monitoring devices in the operating rooms so that patient vital signs can be accurately recorded.
* Troubleshoots any Anesthesia equipment malfunctions and reports any issues for repair in order to prepare ALL equipment for upcoming surgeries.
* Cleans Anesthesia machines and equipment in accordance with the guidelines distributed by Infection Control in order to maintain sterile equipment.
* Stocks Anesthesia supplies, including Ploss carts, fiberoptic carts, and emergency airway bags in order to prevent supply outages during active surgery.
* Helps Anesthesia providers with non-invasive and invasive procedures, including line placement and airway management techniques so that patients can breathe during surgery.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
