About This Opportunity

As a high-level Carpenter Foreman of Commercial Construction at Rockford, you will self-perform a variety of work as it relates to structural, rough, and finish carpentry and lead a team. You will be responsible for reporting and communicating project status and project issues to Trades management. You will also have the ability to train and mentor team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rough carpentry including framing walls, bulkheads, blocking, stringer layout, involving wood and metal construction.
  • Finish carpentry including wood base, jambs, casing, hinge pockets, wood door installations, window installations, sidelights.
  • Assign team members on specific tasks to ensure the efficient completion of the project.
  • Base and wall cabinet prefabricated and custom countertop installations.
  • Door hardware installations including handsets, door closers, kick plates, panic bars, and sweeps.
  • Assist other carpenters with required tasks as needed; foster a teamwork environment.
  • Read blueprints and insure work meets current building code requirements.
  • Receive and organize material deliveries.
  • Actively manage and maintain safety on the job site.
  • Review and interpret contract documents.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the jobsite, such as removing trash, organize materials, sweep, etc.
  • The ability to to fulfill the role of Trades Carpenter when not acting in the role of Trades Foreman.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.


Competency Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years of carpentry experience and people management skills to successfully lead a team.
  • Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with others to complete tasks.
  • Familiarity with MIOSHA and OSHA requirements related to assigned tasks.
  • Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or less.

Environmental Factors

The work environment for this position may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction including high temperatures, humidity, cold temperatures, and climbing stairs and ladders. Other examples of physical hazards include noise, proximity to moving vehicles, atmospheric conditions, close quarters, uneven surfaces, and elevated surfaces. The individual may also be subject to outside environmental conditions (weather) where protection may not be available. Lifting of 50 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing will be necessary to perform the requirements of this position. Use of mobile equipment and power tools will be frequent. Personal protective equipment (PPE) including proper footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection (if applicable), high visibility vest and/or other special clothing shall be worn on construction sites at all times unless otherwise specified.


Varied amounts of travel and time away from home should be expected as a requirement of this position. Extended stays away from home may result depending on the location of the project in proximity to the individuals home.

Because safety is paramount to AP and embedded into everything we do, all team members are responsible for working safely within our Incident and Injury Free culture.

Directly coordinate and lead activities of multiple trades workers, including carpenters, laborers, and/or operators on a job site. May also engage in some of the same construction trades work as the project team members.
Key accountabilities of the role include:

+ Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.

+ Coordinate, direct, and lead team members engaged in construction trade activities. Assign work to team members using material and worker requirements data.

+ Oversee crews to obtain top quality workmanship. Lead the team and monitor efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork, and pride.

+ Recognize and communicate any priority projects or issues to the Superintendent or Project Manager.

+ Closely work with the project team to provide calculations on hours worked, materials needed, and staffing resources.

+ Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, MS Project, Excel, Sure Trak, and/or AutoCad.
