General Description:
The Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of school buildings, facilities, and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Constructs, installs, and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints, drawings or oral instructions conforming to local building codes.
Builds, repairs and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim, using carpenter hand and power tools.
Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
Replaces damaged ceiling tiles, floor tile, and wall coverings.
Performs general carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, screens, windows and scaffolding.
Forms wood fixtures, furniture and repairs tables, chairs, and benches.
Builds concrete forms and replaces wooden window sashes.
Sands and finishes floors.
Performs skilled bench work in a carpentry shop operating power saws, jigsaws, wood lathes, plans, sanders and mortising machines.
Cleans, sharpens and repairs hand and bench toots.
Makes estimates of time and materials required for task and keeps simple records.
Supervises and instructs helpers and apprentices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma or its equivalency and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, practices and safety precautions of the carpentry trade.
Must have working knowledge and skills in making simple estimates of time and materials, inspecting lumber and working from sketches, plans and written instructions.
Must have considerable knowledge of carpentry work, local building/construction codes, policies, guidelines and procedures.
Must have good knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions and ability to interpret and work from instructions, guidelines, regulations and policies.
Must have the ability to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers, supervisors, managers and school/department administration and staff.
Must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs frequently and 50-100 lbs occasionally for short distances or with the aid of load bearing equipment.
Must have sufficient strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks of lifting, stooping, bending, and carrying construction materials and equipment to and from work sites.
Must be skilled in the use of tools, equipment and machinery required in carpentry work and in working from sketches, blueprints, and diagrams.
A performance test may be required to demonstrate the required skill level. Must hold a Virginia motor vehicle operator's license with a satisfactorily driving record.

SUMMARY

Expected base pay range for this positions is: $25.00/hr - $30.00/hr
This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Kokosing at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. The Carpenter is primarily responsible for completing residential and commercial repair jobs that are assigned by the Project Managers of the reconstruction department. This role must complete all repairs within the time frame of the job and within industry standards. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work safely in residential and commercial properties that have been damaged by fire, water, storm, and/or mold
Complete assigned repair jobs for residential and commercial properties using a punch list
Complete work orders as given by reconstruction department

Complete measurements and calculate size and amount of material needed on assigned jobs

Inspect damaged framework

Complete drywall projects
