Job Summary The Water Operator is responsible for operating the machines required to install the underground piping for our customers. This position supports the Water team and works with personnel within the department. Responsibilities Operate jobsite equipment safely, such mobile cranes, bulldozers, angle dozers, front end loaders, backhoes, excavators, track hoe, trenchers, or other construction equipment. Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs on machines, check oil and fluids. Inspect work area to ensure it has been staked/located prior to digging. Work with maintenance crew or assist as laborer when not operating equipment. Dig around all live utilities, both underground and overhead. Train, guide, or oversee work of lower graded operators and laborers when needed Comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to MasTec or the customer, whichever standard is higher. Load trucks in a safe and accident-free manner. Work to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively to provide quality seamless customer service with quality timeliness. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned. Qualifications Minimum High school diploma, or equivalent. 1 year of relevant experience. Valid driver's license. Main Responsibilities: * Fasten attachments to tractor with clevis or wedge pin hitches. * Connect hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachments. * Move levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks. * Move levers and depress pedals to maneuver tractor and raise, lower, and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way. * Feel lever and listen for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut. * Grease, oil, and perform minor repairs on equipment. * Maintain all appropriate maintenance records. * Assess the area to determine if the utilities were properly located prior to performing the underground work. * Review the terrain to determine the best method to perform the job. * Travel frequently within the area for work assignments (Pueblo and Colorado Springs, CO). Required Qualifications: * Prior heavy equipment operating experience. * Experience and knowledge with installing wet utilities (water/sewer). * Valid Class A CDL * Current DOT Medical Card, or the ability to obtain one upon employment. * High school diploma or equivalent. JOB SUMMARY Operates asphalt plant to produce materials used in construction: Moves controls on panel board or control board to heat, dry, and mix ingredients, such as asphalt, sand, stone, and naphtha, to produce asphalt paving materials. Observes gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications. May repair machinery, using handtools, power tools, and welding equipment. GENERAL STATEMENT OF CLASS DUTIES Operates asphalt plant for the production of hot mix asphalt and other mix designs used in the construction and maintenance of roadways. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position reports directly to an Operations Supervisor that supervises non-supervisory and/or working supervisory employees involved in the operation of the asphalt plant and mixing of aggregate material. The Plant Operator may also share or be responsible for the loading of aggregate material into hopper duties typical of a Heavy Equipment Operator and in yard operations and maintenance duties typical of a Senior/Utility Worker position. Guidelines, Difficulty and Decision Making Level: Guidelines are generally numerous, well established and directly applicable to the work assignment. Work assignment and desired results are explained by general oral or written instructions. Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy. Employee primarily applies standardized practices. Decisions or recommendations on non-standardized situations are limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases. Problems that are not covered by guidelines or are without precedent are taken up with the supervisor. Level of Supervision Received and Quality Review: Under normal supervision, within a standardized work situation, the employee performs duties common to the line of work without close supervision or detailed instruction. Work product is subject to continual review.
