Job Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Carrier Representative is to identify and develop carrier capacity to meet the transportation needs of our customers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Locate, negotiate, and manage the capacity required by the shipments tendered by customers.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to the carriers and to the Customer Representatives while updating the system.
  • Manage shipments and communicate with the carrier's driver and dispatch office to provide timely and accurate information for the team and customer.
  • Establish long-term connections and engagement with carriers.
  • Qualify new carriers and assist in onboarding procedures.
  • Track 100% of customer shipments.
  • Share identified capacity with the team to capitalize on opportunities.
  • Stay current on industry news and trends.

LSC Communications carrier job description

The Carrier Procurement and Relations role's primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: identifying and onboarding new full truckload transportation vendors (carriers), building strategic partnerships leveraging LSC Communications Logistics' extensive freight network, hosting RFP events for current and/or existing jobs being produced by LSC and other third-party mail and print customers, and other related tasks. Position requires a strong working knowledge of truckload / transportation markets & current trends, as well as strong organizational / analytical skills.

* Maintain and grow carrier relationships through a combination of scheduled feedback & metric sharing.

* Provide and negotiate freight rates to carriers.

* Resolve transportation problems with urgency and professionalism.
* Procurement of new carriers based on volume and lane density.
* Maintain strong grasp and market knowledge of shipping lanes, geography, and seasonality.
* Relay load / load plan updates internally to the proper parties.

Qualification

* HS diploma or equivalent with 2-4 years of relevant administrative/operational support in logistics operations/support or office environment directly related to the duties of the job, OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of work experience.

* Ability to follow company policy and understand any rules or regulations governing the work being completed and impact work has on department or company.

* Must have very good knowledge of technology to include computers and software programs such as MS Office word processing, spreadsheets or other programs specific to the job in order to complete duties successfully.

* Requires good knowledge of multiple functions or areas of the business in which there is frequent contact with while completing daily work assignments of the job.

* Must have very good oral and written communication skills sufficient to explain departmental policy, methods and/or procedures when completing assignments.

* Requires very good organizational skills sufficient to accomplish work by established deadlines and ability to coordinate phases of work with others.
