CASA was founded in 1985 in the basement of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church by US citizens and Central American immigrants.
The first CASA program in Maryland started in 1987 and, since then, fourteen additional programs have started.
CASA was originally known as the "Central American Solidarity Association of Maryland". The organization's name was officially changed to CASA of Maryland, Inc., on July 28, 1995.
Maryland CASA Association was incorporated in 1997 as a private, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization, to advance the individual efforts of the local CASA programs, help to start new CASA programs where needed and serve more of the state’s abused and neglected children.
Maryland CASA officially opened its doors in 1998 and has helped to start seven new CASA programs throughout the state, expanding the number of counties served by CASA to twenty-one.
The project was budgeted at $31 million in 2007.
The organization's name was officially changed to CASA de Maryland, Inc., on September 4, 2008.
In June 2010, CASA opened a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m) multicultural center in the heart of Langley Park and located in the former Langley Park mansion.
