Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare company history timeline

1980

First established in 1980 as North/Northeast Community Mental Health Inc., the center has relocated four times throughout the neighborhood.

1989

In 1989, the center was renamed Garlington Center in honor of the late Rev.

2002

Hood and Southeast merged in 2002, the name Cascadia was chosen and a year later Unity (the merged Mental Health Services West and North-Northeast) merged into Cascadia.

2006

The Garlington Center, a longtime provider of mental health and addiction services for people living in North and Northeast Portland, moved to the site in 2006 and has historically provided a strong anchor for neighborhood connections within the social services community.

2008

What led to Cascadia nearly unraveling in the spring of 2008 was a change in the way it was paid for its services, Walker said.

2015

Since October 2015, the Oregon Health Authority developed the CCBHC criteria as well as design an Alternative Payment Methodology (APM) to support the additional services required by the CCBHC model.

2016

In October 2016, Oregon submitted an application to be part of a two-year demonstration program to determine the effectiveness of the CCBHC model.

In December 2016, SAMHSA announced that Oregon was one of eight states to be awarded the demonstration grant.

Looking ahead, Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare, the nonprofit that operates the center, is in the middle of a capital campaign to rebuild the site and looking forward to a fall 2016 groundbreaking.

2017

In April 2017, Cascadia received the CCBHC designation.

2021

Cascadia was designated as Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status in March 2021.
