The Heavy Equipment Operator ensures the safe operation of heavy equipment at the landfill for the purpose of transferring, spreading, covering, loading and/or compacting waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner; operates one or more types of heavy construction equipment including backhoes, forklifts, graders, tractors, and front-end loaders.
Hiring Range: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the landfill site, including litter removal
Performs pre/post operation inspection of equipment in accordance with Casella safety standards as well as state and federal regulations. Ensures all safety equipment and devices are operational and secured properly to equipment
Monitors waste for evidence of unacceptable or hazardous waste in materials
Monitors the condition of the equipment frequently to ensure it is always operationally ready to minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels on equipment as needed
Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to maintenance shop for repair
Operates heavy equipment following all safety and training protocols and ensures that the facility is properly maintained
Observes operation of heavy equipment performing trouble shooting procedures as necessary.
Occasionally assists technicians with maintenance and ensures communication of mechanical issues
Follows all required safety policies and procedures
Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a self-directed person, at least 18 years of age, have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and be legally eligible to work in the US. It is required to have a high school diploma or GED and two years of prior experience in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
Proven commitment to work and safety, excellent communication and problem solving skills are required.

I. Job Summary
Safely operates a heavy-duty truck to perform assigned duties on transfer routes.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pay Range:
$89,600.00 - $134,400.00
The pay range for this position is outlined above. The final amount offered at the start of employment is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, abilities and geographic location, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.

Key Responsibilities
Follows all company standards, procedures, policies and complies with permitted regulations to maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment.
Provides excellent customer service and communicates effectively with drivers, staff, and visitors
Maintains accurate scale operations and records to ensure factual reporting
Prepares dispatch documents, generates freight bills and invoices, maintains records of dispatched calls, driver's routes, route changes, and delivery and pickup times
Coordinates with supervisor for door assignments for loading and unloading of materials coming into the facility.
Interfaces with company drivers, outside haulers and 3

party vehicles to oversee accurate and appropriate job functions
Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission and /or abide by our core values.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma with 1-3 years of related industrial experience and demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment. Experience or interest in an environmental and/or sustainability field is preferred.
Outstanding relationship management skills, excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills are needed. Excellent organizational, math, and computer knowledge with a positive and professional mind-set are expected.
