    The Heavy Equipment Operator ensures the safe operation of heavy equipment at the landfill for the purpose of transferring, spreading, covering, loading and/or compacting waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner; operates one or more types of heavy construction equipment including backhoes, forklifts, graders, tractors, and front-end loaders. Hiring Range: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour. Key Responsibilities Assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the landfill site, including litter removal Performs pre/post operation inspection of equipment in accordance with Casella safety standards as well as state and federal regulations. Ensures all safety equipment and devices are operational and secured properly to equipment Monitors waste for evidence of unacceptable or hazardous waste in materials Monitors the condition of the equipment frequently to ensure it is always operationally ready to minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels on equipment as needed Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to maintenance shop for repair Operates heavy equipment following all safety and training protocols and ensures that the facility is properly maintained Observes operation of heavy equipment performing trouble shooting procedures as necessary.     The Operations Associate is a member of a team responsible for daily monitoring and processing of materials in order to add value to the customer. The incumbent will work with a team to ensure that materials are handled appropriately and that the customers gets the best value out of our services. #INDSJ Pay range $21.00-$23.00 per hour based on experience Key Responsibilities Operates a variety of industrial equipment including bailers, forklifts, grinders and other equipment based on location and loads recycling materials for collection and transportation. Processes production scrap, sorts materials, and bales cardboard and plastic film. Loads finished products onto trailers and ensures safe loading procedures are followed. Ensures proper packaging of food waste and recycling into containers most appropriate for the material and which comply with applicable transport regulations and disposal/recycling site acceptance parameters. Attends all safety trainings, reports any incidents or near misses and wears PPE as needed to ensure workplace safety and compliance with regulatory policies and procedures. Creates and manages all shipping paperwork (Bill-of-Lading, Packing List, Trailer Checklist, Waste Manifests, etc.) Generates packing lists for each outbound load and documents weights for each item loaded onto trailers in order to maintain organization within each order. Communicates any challenges or inquiries to the Operations Supervisor as needed. Utilizes workplace experiences to generate and present ideas for program improvement. May be required to operate a 22ft box truck or a truck with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more. The physical ability to lift 30lbs frequently and 65lbs. several times a day, stand for 8 hours, and work extended hours (if needed). Knowledge of lockout tagout procedures and the ability to navigate and use Microsoft Office are helpful. Pulls paper from the fence and lifts loose paper from the ground, depositing refuse in bag until full. * Uses mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse. Drives tractor pulling vacuum along the fenced border of the landfill, as well as on the exterior land adjacent to the public property. When destination is reached, parks and descends the tractor. Grasps the vacuum hose handle and guides to vacuum loose paper from the fence and ground. When the immediate area is vacuumed, ascends the tractor cab and drives forward. Parks and descends the cab, repeating the vacuum process as necessary. (i.e. new hire packets, reference checks, communication forms, etc.). * Maintain high levels of cleanliness and sanitation. * Order and receive merchandise utilizing inventory ordering guidelines. * Ensuring adequate gasoline levels as well as coordinating gasoline deliveries. * Maintain an accurate compliance binder. * Perform employee evaluations. * Implement all Company promotional initiatives. * Monitors shift cash handling and inventory. Assists in investigations of shortages/overages of $100 per month or less as well as inventory variations of 0.5% of sales or less. * Audit cashier paperwork for accuracy. * Maintain image standards set forth and image surveys. * Report and review all environment, maintenance issues and unusual occurrences to the proper authority as well as management personnel. * Price book maintenance/operation of security cameras (where applicable)/On the Run (where applicable). * PDI reports and functions. * Schedule, monitor and control payroll hours on a daily, weekly, and bi-weekly basis. * Ability to communicate with associates and guests. * Ability to count, read and write accurately to complete required paperwork. * Perform additional merchandise price surveys. * Assist in covering manager vacancies at other store locations. * Hire, train and develop an assistant manager capable of running the store in your absence. * Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions. * Other duties assigned by Territory Manager.
