Cass County Public Library company history timeline

1947

In April 1947, Cass County residents voted a one mill per dollar of valuation upon real and personal property to found a new library and the Cass County Public Library was born.

In September of 1947, the Library Board unanimously selected Dorothea F. Hyle, former head of circulation at the Kansas City Public Library, to be the new County Librarian.

An opening tea attended by over 500 Cass County residents was held December 13, 1947.

1993

The LaGrange Township Library closed its doors in 1993 when it merged with the Cass County Library.

1994

The Genealogy Branch, founded with the assistance of a local community organizer, Mary B. B. Crouch, opened its doors for the first time in April 1994.

2004

Later in 2004, this branch along with the Raymore and Peculiar branches were combined to create the Northern Resource Center.

2017

D. Layman Construction was first contracted by the library in 2017 to restore the building’s windows.
