I am keen on solving for the impact of behavior on chronic disease.

My mission is to improve health and reduce costs by making engagement and retention in effective healthcare the path of least resistance.

In March 2020 joined as CMO of DarioHealth (NASDAQ:DRIO) to make effective care for chronic conditions the path of least resistance. Before that I was the Chief Medical Officer of Catasys (now OnTrak, NASDAQ:OTRK), a firm that blends human engagement and technology to reduce the need for expensive acute medical care by addressing its fundamental behavioral health drivers.

I have an MBA from U. Va, am a Distinguished Fellow of the APA, a Fellow of ASAM, and am board certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine and Medical Management.

Failure to address behavioral drivers of illness is costing payers billions of dollars in worsening chronic medical conditions. Most chronic diseases are driven by behavior and most sufferers don't get help for those fundamental drivers. For those who do find care, many aren’t getting the right care over the right duration. These persons with chronic diseases deserve better.

As a Chief Medical Officer at Dario, I am passionately and relentlessly focused on solving that problem.

I also enjoy explaining behavioral science in simple terms; I’ve appeared on all the major networks. I’ve also written a book that explains what causes cravings and how they can be tamed.

When news breaks, I explain the science in simple terms. I also give several keynote addresses a year related to addiction and behavioral science. Most in demand is my futurist's perspective forecasting BH and addiction trends over the next 5-20 years with a particular focus on platform disruption, AI and the digital transformation.

Feel free to reach out to me! But please don't try to sell me anything or ask me for leads--those are for my friends and clients.

Pros of working at CATASYS

Work from home. Can choose to work 10hr. shift. No work on weekends. Time off requests are usually approved.

Cons of working at CATASYS

Company has taken away 401k match. Health insurance cost keeps increasing every year. Leadership has favorite employees and it shows. Managers are unprofessional, have no clue how to manage, like to hover over people and always are dictating what to do. There is no breathing room anymore, you have to account for every second you are on the clock. No more employee autonomy. No part time shifts. No time to regroup after heavy coaching sessions such as when members are suicidal. Coaches mental and physical health is deteriorating. Morale is low. Workflows are elaborate and non efficient, it seems like nobody has any training in rapid improvement processes.

CATASYS benefits

Working with underserved communities.

What do you like best about CATASYS's CEO and the leadership team?

I don’t like anything. The former CEO was indicted for stock fraud. Leadership will set unrealistic metric goal expectations, and always setting its employees to fail. Supervisor has an attitude of take it or leave it making the employees understand that they are quickly replaceable even though half the staff has gone through a lot of hardship with this company for years and have endured over 5 layoffs.

How would you improve CATASYS's culture?

Have RIM+ and PDSA training for all stars. Have a rapid improvement team composed of employees of different departments to come up with better brainstorming and processes. Have continuous educational courses for supervisors and managers. Leadership to be part of a more in person conversation with the front force. Bring back 401k match. Provide part time specially when employee is needing to improve it’s own health.

How did you prepare for the CATASYS interview?

Practiced coaching sessions with family members.

How does your compensation at CATASYS compare to the industry average?

Underpaid in the nursing field. Average pay for the coaching field.

What's the diversity at CATASYS like?

All leadership is Caucasian.

What brings you the most joy at CATASYS?

Joy is gone. Only reason to stay is to help the underserved community.

Cons of working at CATASYS

Managers are 2 faced- They don't mind you going out of your way to help them, but when you need something they act like they don't know.
