Steward

Manages foodservice/housekeeping operations and is directly responsible for preparing meals while supervising a crew of 7 or less. The typical Steward has good communication and leadership skills, can plan and cost menus, train staff, and has a positive customer service attitude.

Night Cook / Baker

This position is for those who wish to move up to a Steward/Executive Steward position. Required skills include ability to assist with preparation of and following a menu, ability to prepare short-order breakfast and grill items, work with larger cuts of meat and prepare a wide variety of baked goods from scratch. The Night Cook/Baker may work alone or supervise up to two people.

Galley Hand

This is an entry level position for those who want to learn the field. Basic skills are taught, and the primary requirement is an ability to follow instructions and to have a team-centered approach to work.

Please take into consideration that this position is an offshore position . You will be required to work in remote locations with very limited access to telephones for several weeks at a time. You must provide your own transportation to the crew change locations, which range from 45 minutes to 3 hours (or more) from the Greater New Orleans area. Crew changes are usually in the early morning hours (5 am-6 am).

Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks an On-Call Caterer/Driver to join the Events Group. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team who strives to exceed your expectations.

The incumbent organizes and transports the equipment, supplies, small wares, linens, condiments and other accessory items required for catered events on- and off-campus. The successful candidate is responsible for set-up and visual presentation at assigned events. The person in this position operates a light duty motor vehicle in expediting and transporting of items needed for catered functions and performs basic food preparation.

Essential Functions:
Expedite, load, transport, unload and set up food, various small wares and supplies for catered functions in a courteous and professional manner. Coordinate delivery and set-up with sensitivity to time management and advance planning, assuring that all deliveries meet scheduling requests and in time to achieve careful visual presentation. Ensure that buffet items are displayed with sensitivity to the visual presentation required by a discerning clientele. Anticipate unforeseen circumstances and ensure that items are available to address unexpected needs for on- and off-campus events. Return to break down and close out all functions at specified times as assigned. Perform clerical duties in a timely manner as required. Perform basic food preparation, assist in the preparation of complex menu items, and assist with serving food items as needed and in compliance with safety and HAACP standards. Remain up to date on safety and HAACP standards. Either directly or in partnership with members of the Catering department, participate in inventory processes of catering food items and supplies, including paper and plastic ware, beverages, and beer, wine and spirits. Help ensure that storage areas and freezers in proper order and sanitary condition. Ensure the proper use and cleanliness (inside and out) of catering motor vehicles, which includes fueling and updating/maintaining a mileage log sheet. Report repairs needed to the Catering Manager. Makes daily deliveries for catering.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Must hold a valid driver's license.Excellent interpersonal skills and a keen attention to detail and visual presentation are required.Must be able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and a discerning external clientele.Commitment to centering inclusivity, diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities.High school diploma Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of previous experience in a fast-paced food service environment, or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required.

Job Duties
