Welder - Structural This person must be able to join steel components or metal plates using blueprints, work orders, welding procedures or oral instructions through the application of heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Other duties may be assigned. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Uses Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes. Unites pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and turns valves to release mixture. Reaching expected temperature, size, and color of flame by burning torch and adjusting flow of gas and air. Preheats work pieces for the preparation of welding or curving, using torch. Fills holes or corrects mistakes in lead pieces and makes bulges thin and curves in metal work pieces. manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. Job Purpose: Welders provide support for manufacturing heavy-duty industrial equipment. The work includes tacking, fitting, welding, and metal fabrication, using a range of materials from thin-gauge to thick plate metals. Key Deliverables • Adhere to all safety rules and perform work at a quality level • Read and understand assigned blueprints prior to starting a project. • Participate in process and product development and improvement programs. • Accurately inspect metal prior to welding to ensure clean welds. • Perform grinding operations that comply with Astec's standards Key Activities & Responsibilities • Ability to perform grinding and be able to pass a required welding skills test. • Necessary to be able to do all Grinder tasks. • Must be able to safely perform gang-welding techniques (dos and don'ts). • Must inspect metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability and clean welds to presentable state (grinding operations). • Must work with Fitters on proper assembly of equipment. • Keep work area clean and neat. • Clock in on assigned jobs as appropriate. • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for work to be performed. • Must be able to safely use cranes and forklifts. • Must be trained in and know PPE requirements for welding including hood and filter shades and arm/body protection. • Must be able to read and understand weld symbols. • Must maintain welding machines by keeping them clean and changing liners in the welding guns. • Follows company policies and procedures at all times. • Follows proper safety rules and procedures at all times. • Performs other duties as assigned.
