About the Position
Staffattorneys are responsible for the substantive, procedural, and administrative processing of motions and fully briefed cases. This position will foster your legal research, writing, and oral presentation skills. Applicants who are hired for this position will be placed in a subject area team within OSA, depending on staffing needs as well as applicant experience and interest. Current needs are in the civil, criminal, and immigration realms.
Representative Duties
Processing motions and cases entails:
Reviewing the parties' filings and the record;
Independently researching the legal issues;
Identifying the strongest recommendation(s) for resolving the matter;
Orally presenting recommendations to monthly panels of judges;
Drafting orders and non-precedential decisions;
Effectively managing a docket of cases; and
Promptly and accurately performing administrative tasks.
Staffattorneys may also be called upon to respond to public inquiries and requests for information, and to process emergency motions on an expedited basis outside of regular work hours.
With increased experience, staffattorneys may handle a higher volume of assignments, conduct peer review of cases, and work on increasingly complex matters.
Position Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school.
At least two (2) years post-J.D. legal work experience consistent with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Proof that you are licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia, and an active member of the bar in good standing.

About the Microsoft 365 Administrator II Position and Responsibilities
The Office seeks a Microsoft 365 (M365) Administrator II to provide guidance and support for the M365 platform and services including SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Power Automate, Power Apps, Intune, Entra ID, and more. This role will create modern, high impact SharePoint sites for the Office. This role will also serve as the primary administrator of Intune and Entra ID. Education:

Position Summary
The Affirmative Unit StaffAttorney will represent ILS clients in a variety of humanitarian immigration matters, focusing on affirmative cases. Responsibilities

Job Description
The Clean Slate Unit at the Public Defender's office represents clients on post-conviction expungement matters, including vacatur motions for non-citizens under Penal Code section 1473.7(a)(1). Clean Slate seeks to hire an attorney who will be primarily assigned to represent all our non-citizen clients through each step of the Clean Slate process.
Over the 2.5 year project period, the new attorney will be able to field the increase in inquiries coming from the noncitizen community and work on reducing the backlog of noncitizen cases.
Role description
Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt
Under supervision, this position in the Public Defender's Office is responsible for but not limited to:
1. Serves as a counsel to persons arrested for or convicted of crimes who are seeking recording clearing relief and are financially unable to employ counsel; represents such clients in criminal court.
2. Represents clients at each stage of the Clean Slate process: reviews initial applications and arrest histories; consults with the Immigration Unit at the Public Defender's office to determine the appropriate record clearing relief; communicates with clients at each stage of the process; interviews clients and witnesses; conducts and/or supervises investigations and writes legal briefs; communicates with outside immigration counsel as needed; negotiates with the assigned Assistant District Attorney to achieve outcomes for clients.
3. Prepares and argues motions to vacate convictions pursuant to Penal Code section 1473.7(a)(1) and other record clearing statutes in the Superior Court.
4. Performs other related duties as required.

About the Health & Human Services Team
The Health & Human Services Team serves as general counsel for the Department of Public Health, the Human Services Agency, the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and certain other departments that protect and promote the health and wellbeing of the City's residents.
The team also advises the Mayor's Office, the Board of Supervisors, and other City officials and departments on matters relating to health care and human service programs.
The team's responsibilities include: providing general legal counsel to the team's clients, including in relation to privacy and compliance, health care issues, and state and federal regulatory oversight of licensed facilities and professionals; interpreting myriad federal, state, and local laws governing the provision and funding of health and human service programs; drafting related local and state legislation; drafting and approving a high volume of contracts and advising on the City's procurement processes (including requests for proposals); advising the Health Commission, the Human Services Commission, and other policy and advisory bodies; and advising on the day-to-day legal issues that arise in the operation of major City departments, including in relation to public meeting and public records laws.
Deputy City Attorney Position and Responsibilities
An attorney on the Health & Human Services Team typically serves in an advisory roles as general counsel to a mix of City officials and departments. In that capacity, the attorney may perform many functions - providing interpretations and advice, both orally and in writing, formally and informally, on a broad range of legal issues. The attorney's role could include interpreting City or State law or advising on the legal risks of a particular government action; drafting ordinances, ballot measures, and administrative regulations; reviewing contracts for legal and procedural sufficiency; and providing legal advice to commissioners before and during commission meetings. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with frontline communities and conservation organizations in local, regional, and statewide coalitions to proactively protect vulnerable ecosystems while also opposing destructive and polluting projects;
Identify, develop, and litigate cases and administrative actions to further the program's campaign goals;
Draft legal and/or scientific comments on proposed rules and environmental review documents;
Advocate for conservation policies, including through oral testimony, policy analysis, petitions for rulemaking, and effective communications;

The StaffAttorney is a member of the legal department who may be assigned to work primarily with one or more of the legal teams as needed. Accordingly, the types and amounts of cases assigned to a staff member will reflect the needs of the clients serviced by the team(s) they are assigned or the needs of clients across the legal department as a whole. Immigration Legal Assistance:
Provide representation to clients with cases involving issues such as criminal history, immigration law violations, family law issues, current or previous removal proceedings, appeals, or other issues related to their immigration matters as needed.
Responsible for the preparation, review, revision and submission of any documents needed to address a client's immigration issues, including but not limited to, applications, motions, legal memos or briefs, petitions or requests.
Represent individuals before federal, state or local courts, agencies or tribunals at all levels as needed to properly address and resolve issues for clients in their cases. Such representation should follow both ethical and professional responsibility obligations as well as funder requirements.
Responsible for creating and communicating timelines and tasks to supervisors, colleagues, and subordinate staff that will properly and efficiently resolve issues in cases in order to achieve the best possible outcome for clients. Also responsible for communicate this information to clients.
Ability to work effectively under pressure with urgent deadlines.
Research and analyze complex and straightforward legal matters pertaining to own caseload and assuming responsibility and risk for outcomes of client cases.

Staff Supervision:
Conduct review of all applications and other documents prepared by subordinate staff that are to be filed with USCIS, the Immigration Court, or other courts, agencies or tribunals prior to their submission. Provide revisions and directions to other staff assigned to the case in order to effect necessary changes or to take actions to properly represent the client.
Provide coaching and mentorship whenever possible to colleagues and subordinate staff to improve their knowledge, skills, accuracy, and efficacy in understanding the practice of the various areas law related to our clients' cases and to improve the quality of service provided to clients.
Customer Service and Community Outreach:
Communicate and interact with clients with professionalism, respect, compassion, and sensitivity to their life circumstances and potential or actual trauma that they have suffered.
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide them with updates regarding their cases no later than 90 days after the last case update provided to them.
Respond to any client communications or inquiries no later than within 48 - 72 hours of receipt of message from client(s).

The StaffAttorney is a member of the legal department who may be assigned to work primarily with one or more of the legal teams as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Immigration Legal Assistance:
Provide representation to clients with cases involving issues such as criminal history, immigration law violations, family law issues, current or previous removal proceedings, appeals, or other issues related to their immigration matters as needed.
Responsible for the preparation, review, revision and submission of any documents needed to address a client's immigration issues, including but not limited to, applications, motions, legal memos or briefs, petitions or requests.
Represent individuals before federal, state or local courts, agencies or tribunals at all levels as needed to properly address and resolve issues for clients in their cases. Such representation should follow both ethical and professional responsibility obligations as well as funder requirements.
Responsible for creating and communicating timelines and tasks to supervisors, colleagues, and subordinate staff that will properly and efficiently resolve issues in cases in order to achieve the best possible outcome for clients. Also responsible for communicate this information to clients.
Ability to work effectively under pressure with urgent deadlines.
Research and analyze complex and straightforward legal matters pertaining to own caseload and assuming responsibility and risk for outcomes of client cases.
Screen potential clients for all potential and available immigration benefits that they may qualify for, and use that information to assess their ability to successfully pursue and obtain those benefits.
Communicate to potential clients an assessment or evaluation of their immigration cases or circumstances, including but not limited to any rights these individuals possess, any requirements these individuals must complete, and any deadlines they must comply with.
Stay up to date with changes in immigration law and other immigration related developments in order to be able to provide clients with the best representation possible in their immigration matters.
Make appropriate referrals as necessary for immigration legal services beyond the scope of the program or one's own competencies, and for other social service needs.
Assume caseload of any departing staff member as needed.
Staff Supervision:
Conduct review of all applications and other documents prepared by subordinate staff that are to be filed with USCIS, the Immigration Court, or other courts, agencies or tribunals prior to their submission. Provide revisions and directions to other staff assigned to the case in order to effect necessary changes or to take actions to properly represent the client.
Provide coaching and mentorship whenever possible to colleagues and subordinate staff to improve their knowledge, skills, accuracy, and efficacy in understanding the practice of the various areas law related to our clients' cases and to improve the quality of service provided to clients.
Customer Service and Community Outreach:
Communicate and interact with clients with professionalism, respect, compassion, and sensitivity to their life circumstances and potential or actual trauma that they have suffered.
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide them with updates regarding their cases no later than 90 days after the last case update provided to them.
Respond to any client communications or inquiries no later than within 48 - 72 hours of receipt of message from client(s).
Participate at in-person legal screening events, community presentations, and other special events as scheduled. For example, participation is required at Saturday Legal Triage events, which are scheduled on alternating Saturday mornings (7A - 11A) throughout the year.
Support CHIRLA's fundraising goals including annual fundraising drive and GALA activities.
Reporting Obligations and Program Efficiency:
Update case notes with any developments or client interactions within 48 - 72 hours in order to provide accurate and up to date information for other staff to rely on in a timely manner.
Update and maintain current all databases, tracking sheets or other documents mandated by policies and procedures issued by CHIRLA, the legal department, and any legal team(s) to which they are assigned.
Work closely and diligently with all other staff to represent clients in their legal matters ethically, efficiently and properly in order to maximize client outcomes and deliverable requirements for funders.

Children's Law Center of California (CLC) selects the top 20-25 candidates from law schools around the nation to participate in our full-time 10-week program. Summer clerks learn about the Los Angeles or Sacramento County dependency court systems while developing crucial legal skills and learning to think critically about a wide range of child and family welfare issues.
Law clerks are assigned to work one-on-one with licensed attorneys on matters involving children and families within the Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Placer County child welfare systems. This is a unique, hands-on learning opportunity for law clerks to assist attorneys with both client engagement and trial preparation, including witness interviews, legal research, and the preparation of motions and other court documents. Law clerks will attend juvenile court proceedings on a daily basis and witness how this system addresses the needs of families in crisis.

EXTRA HELP - TEMPORARY WORK ASSIGNMENT
A temporary extra-help work assignment is determined by County of Lake personnel rules and regulations.
* Extra Help Employees are typically hired at an hourly rate of pay at the first step of the salary range.
* Extra Help Employees are paid only for hours worked.
* Extra Help Employees are only entitled to legally mandated benefits, which does not include paid vacation or holidays.
* Extra Help Employees do not have status.
* Extra Help Employees are temporary and may be terminated at any time based on department need.
EXTRA-HELP APPOINTMENT
Extra help positions are limited to no more than 25 hours per week (unless a position is considered seasonal) and no more than 900 hours per fiscal year.
SEASONAL EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYEE
Extra help seasonal employees must perform work tied to an actual season and will not perform any work for at least 26 consecutive weeks between seasons. The seasonal employee definition is subject to change as defined by the IRS and Affordable Care Act.
* Seasonal employees may work 40 hours a week for up to 26 consecutive weeks and;
* Seasonal employees must be terminated for the 26 weeks they are not performing any work.
CalPERS RETIRED ANUITANT ASSIGNMENT
A Retired Annuitant is a CalPERS retiree employed by the County on an at-will basis, with specific restrictions to protect their retirement allowance (pension payments). Examples of assignment for a Retired Annuitant are work to eliminate a backlog, work on a special project, and work that is in excess of what regular staff can do. Retired Annuitant are subject to work under Limited-Duration. The employment is expected to end once the specific task or project they were hired to complete is finished. All work restriction is governed by Government Code (G.C.) sections 21224, 21229, and 21221(h).
Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
Certificate of registration as a certified law student from the State Bar, per California Courts Rule 9.42
Education and Experience:
Have successfully completed one full year of studies (minimum of 270 hours) at a law school accredited by the American Bar Association or the State Bar of California, or both, or have passed the first-year law students' examination;
AND
Have been accepted into, and be enrolled in, the second, third or fourth year of law school in good academic standing or have graduated from law school, subject to the time period limitations specified in the rules adopted by the Board of Trustees of the State Bar;
AND
