Catholic Diocese of Dallas company history timeline

1892

On July 10, 1892, Bishop Thomas F. Brennan, the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Dallas, dedicated the new church.

1904

3, 1904 in a solemn high mass celebrated by Bishop Dunne and assisted by Father Lynch and the Very Rev.

1905

The old rectory after all had been built by Lynch probably in 1905.

1909

St Rita’s parish in Handley (now a part of Fort Worth) was established in 1909.

1910

On August 5, 1910 Dunne dies while visiting his friend in Wisconsin.

In 1910, the Sisters of St Mary marked a milestone by establishing the first Catholic college, Our Lady of Victory in Fort Worth.

By 1910 the present area of the Fort Worth Diocese had twenty-six parishes many of which were created in the rural areas where German and Czech immigrants settled.

1911

12, 1911 and Sisters of St Mary receive the first students on opening day, Sept.

1912

10, 1912, perhaps the greatest single thing to ever happen at St Edward’s Parish.

1958

Burnes’ determination and the support of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas and the St Elizabeth Church that St Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School opened its doors on September 12, 1958 with 29 kindergarten and first grade students.

1962

Because of the continued support of St Elizabeth Church, larger and more modern facilities were built and dedicated in 1962, at which time, the school graduated its first eighth grade class.

1964

Volunteer Missionary Teachers took the place of the Oblate Missionaries, and they continued to manage the school until 1964.

Phase two of the school construction began in 1964 with Msgr.

1969

The First Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Worth was Dallas Auxiliary Bishop John J. Cassata, a native of Galveston, who was installed on October 21, 1969.

Today the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth has grown from 60,000 Catholics in 1969 to 1,200,000 Catholics.

1973

He would celebrate his 50th anniversary as a priest at St Edward’s in 1973.

1984

Eight additional classrooms were added to the area underneath the school as well as a connecting gymnasium in 1984.

Massive public educational reform supported by legislation in 1984 created mandates, parameters, and problems with accreditation for all private schools in Texas.

2009

On August 9, 2009, Bishop Kevin W. Vann began a year-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Diocese with a special anniversary Mass at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

2014

The Fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Worth is Most Reverend Michael F. Olson, S.T.D., M.A., the first priest of the Diocese to become a bishop who was ordained and installed on January 29, 2014 at the Tarrant County Convention Center.
