Summary & Objective Therapist, Respiratory help restore patient and/or resident's pulmonary function, alleviates pulmonary congestion and supports life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy treatment and procedures. Essential Functions
* Perform initial and ongoing respiratory therapy evaluations according to National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) standards of practice as well as state standards and adjusts plan based on patient/resident pulmonary condition.
* Develop plan of care for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short and long term goals in collaboration of other clinical personnel and required patient and caregiver involvement.
* Performs appropriate treatments as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
* Completes scheduled patient load.
* Completes EKG's on all new admissions and ongoing as needed or required.
* Draw Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) when necessary
* Ensure Respiratory crash carts are properly equipped and logged on a daily basis.
* Ensure supplies, medications and equipment is available and properly stored.
* Completes all necessary documentation in a timely manner.
* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Other Duties
* Ensure oxygen cylinders are maintained and available for daily use and emergencies
* Report patient and/or residents progress and/or changes to other clinical personnel involved in ongoing treatment/care of patients.
* Provides orientation to new employees as needed.
* Maintains flexibility in assignment changes due to census fluctuation.
* Maintain your required license, certifications and mandatory skill updates.
* Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
* Floats to other units as assigned to meet patient and/or resident care needs.
* Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
* May serve as an interim department leader depending on need
Physical Requirements
* Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.

* Clear and Active Registered Respiratory or Certified Respiratory Therapy license to practice in the state of Florida

Comprised of over 400 Respiratory team members, our Respiratory Care team provide a wide range of specialized services to support patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions in the hospital setting. In addition to core respiratory therapy, services include pulmonary rehabilitation, asthma and COPD education, pulmonary function testing, and interventional procedures such as bronchoscopies and thoracentesis. About this Position:
Our Registered Respiratory Therapists administer all therapeutic, diagnostic, and mechanical modalities under the purview of Respiratory Care Services, for which the Therapist has demonstrated appropriate proficiency, and has been documented as competent to perform these procedures. All of the criteria-based duties within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures and guidelines within the department and the hospital. Responsibility for the delivery of Respiratory Care to patients of all age groups, to include all therapeutic treatments, oxygen therapy, arterial blood gas draws and analysis, ventilator management, and airway management. May assess staff blood gas competencies if qualified as a "Technical Consultant".
Our Registered Respiratory Therapist Critical Care team membersare ACCS or NPS certified and function as an expert in critical care areas (pediatric, neonatal and adult critical care). They are utilized as a resource for less experienced staff. In order to qualify for a Registered Respiratory Therapist Critical Care position, you must have at least 2 years of critical care experience in addition to an Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) or Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification as appropriate to population served/specialty.

Clinical Leadership:

Documents pertinent notations in PFT Comments section. Transfers patient data and test results, via EMR, to over reading MD, upon test completion, without errors. (>5 annually is unacceptable). Submits charges, via EMR, for each test, upon completion, without errors.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: Registered or certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must have a current CPR Card (or obtained within 90 days of employment). Completion of AMA approved program (one or two years) for respiratory therapy. Minimum of one-year experience in Pulmonary Diagnostics or PFT lab.

Qualifications:
Pediatric experience preferred.
A.A.S. in Respiratory Therapy, NYS license/registration as a Respiratory Therapist, and 2 years post A.A.S. degree clinical acute care experience required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must successfully pass pre-employment health clearance.
Duties:
Will administer positive pressure and aerosol therapy to patients; institute and monitor oxygen therapy on patients; assist physicians in instituting and maintaining continuous ventilation; administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation; perform pulmonary function tests; perform radial arterial punctures. Able to perform majority of patient care functions needed in the acute care setting with minimal orientation and supervision.
