The Grossing Technician I performs grossing of specific tissue types for Pathology to aid in diagnosis. They may also perform routine paraffin embedding, frozen sectioning, procuring control tissue, and tissue banking. They value quality patient care, a positive work environment, and teamwork.
This is a per diem day shift position.
Responsibilities
Performs grossing of specific tissue types. Performs routine paraffin embedding. Performs frozen sectioning. Procures control tissue and tissue banking. Operates and maintains processing and staining equipment Ensures accurate results by following established quality control practices. Identifies when a QC problem exists and notifies appropriate technical staff. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Previous work experience in a clinical histology laboratory preferred.
* An earned associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
* Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following:
* 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND
* Laboratory training, including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLA, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist V independently performs various diagnostic laboratory tests in the Clinical Laboratory to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. They use their knowledge and skill set to oversee laboratory functions, including quality control, maintenance, training, and other required tasks.
This is a 40-hour per week, benefitted, day-shift position. This position requires working rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests in a timely manner yielding accurate and precise results with a low error rate. Assists Medical director and Lab manager / supervisor in test selection and implementation. Ability to appropriately troubleshoot and take remedial actions to resolve issues and problems independently. Ensures that patient results are not reported until systems are functioning properly. Clearly communicates resolutions or next steps to section/lab leadership and the team. Possesses advanced knowledge, skills and theory to perform job duties in the clinical laboratory. Establishes or verifies test performance specifications. Is able to assist others in learning techniques and theory. Develops training and teaching programs for area(s) of oversight. Has primary oversight and evaluation responsibility for quality control and instrument function checks using established quality control practices to assess the functioning of the test system(s). Identifies when a QC problem exists and is able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner. Is able to establish a quality control program, execute this plan within regulatory requirements and monitor test performance. Can clearly communicate the steps taken to correct issues and help others understand the process. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to established laboratory procedures and/or manufacturers recommendations, including maintaining supplies. Identifies when sample, instrument, and/or procedural problems exists and takes appropriate actions to remedy the issue, prevent reoccurrence, and investigate replacement solutions or methods when necessary. Is able to appropriately troubleshoot problems and communicate resolutions or next steps. Orients and trains new laboratory staff. Responsibilities
Performs, interprets, documents, and reports clinical laboratory diagnostic assays.
Performs quality control procedures.
Checks, calibrates and maintains equipment in working order, performing preventive maintenance at prescribed intervals. Insures adequate reagent supplies according to Laboratory and Section policies. Maintains a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Performs technical, procedural and administrative problem solving.
Acts as technical resource to the Laboratory and all hospital employees, providing instruction on basic theory, technical skills and applications of test procedures. Assists the Section Supervisor in the evaluation of new procedures, installation of new instrumentation, and training on new or modified instrumentation or equipment. Writes technical procedures utilizing the CLSI format. Performs supervisory responsibilities in
designated laboratory section in the absence of the section supervisor, as assigned.
Trains and orients Medical Laboratory Scientists and Medical Laboratory Technicians, including students.
Performs special projects and other related duties as required or assigned. Volunteers for additional tasks.

Experience
Phlebotomy training with a completed externship preferred. Phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting , clinical support experience in specimen processing preferred. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, able to relate well with clients in a professional and compassionate manner, able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to perform in emergent or crisis situations.
Responsibilities
Obtains and processes venous and capillary blood samples required for laboratory analysis from patients
