The idea of a ferry to carry bikers and walkers over the Winooski River to connect the recently completed Burlington Bikepath with Colchester came to life in 1994.
The ferry across the cut in Malletts Bay connecting Colchester to South Hero would not be implemented until 2004 carrying folks from one side to the other on weekends only.
The Twin Span Bridge was repaired and reopened fully in September of 2005.
In 2005, The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge experienced some damage from Hurricane Katrina.
However, this claim was challenged in 2011 when the 26.4-mile Jiaozhou Bay Bridge opened in China.
Costello recalls that in 2011, his organization was about to launch a major fundraising campaign to buy a new boat and new docks for the Causeway, that would be better able to handle the variety of weather conditions on the lake.
