CCAC company history timeline

1966

In September 1966, classes began at the new Community College of Allegheny County with 59 full- and 16 part-time faculty members serving 1,505 students.

About CCAC Since its founding in 1966, CCAC has flourished, becoming the educational powerhouse it is today a nationally renowned two-year college dedicated to serving all members of the community.

The college opened Boyce Campus, in Monroeville, and Allegheny Campus, on Pittsburgh's North Side, in 1966.

1972

In 1972, the North Campus started in a trailer on the grounds of North Hills Passavant Hospital and then moved to the Pines Plaza Shopping Center.

The following year, South Campus was opened; North Campus opened in 1972.

2000

Since 2000, CCAC has served more than a half million students, of that 455,291 were Allegheny County residents.

2001

Two new sports venues opened in 2001 on the north bank of the Allegheny opposite the Golden Triangle: PNC Park is home of the Pirates, the city’s professional baseball team, and Heinz Field houses the Steelers, its professional gridiron football team.

2010

The Penguins, Pittsburgh’s professional ice hockey team, were scheduled to begin play in Consol Energy Center at the start of the 2010–11 season.
