OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Our company is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join our team. As a Quality Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting in-process inspections using hand inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measurement equipment. Your primary role will be to ensure that our products meet the highest quality standards before they move forward in the production process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Perform in-process inspections using various hand inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, etc.
* Follow work instructions and inspection guidelines to accurately assess product quality.
* Pay meticulous attention to detail, identifying any defects, deviations, or non-conformances during inspections.
* Read and interpret Mylar's and blueprints to verify product dimensions and specifications.
* Collaborate with production teams to address and resolve any quality issues that may arise.
* Assist in reporting non-conformances and documenting inspection results accurately.
* Continuously learn and adapt to new inspection techniques, tools, and technologies.
* Maintain a clean and organized work area.
* Perform thorough examinations of all materials and finished products.
* Implement and improve quality control operating procedures.
* Identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and defects.
* Other job duties as assigned.
GENERAL:
* Associate level should have 2-5 years' experience in Quality.
* General level should have a total of 5+ years' experience in Quality.
* Senior level should have a total of 10+ years' experience in Quality.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Proven experience as a Quality Inspector or in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
* Proficient in using hand inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measurement equipment.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify defects and non-conformances.
* Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
* Familiarity with quality control processes and standards.

PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Planning and Development, the Inspector of Record conducts inspections of construction work performed by contractors and campus crews on utility, new construction and alteration projects. On major capital projects, the campus inspector may be the Inspector of Record (I.O.R.) for the project, or work under the Senior I.O.R. The incumbent will also inspect minor capital project construction and renovations/alterations as appropriate. All work must be inspected for compliance with California Building Codes (CBC, DSA, CSFM) and the State University Administrative Manual (SUAM) governing design and construction practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conducts on-site inspections to evaluate construction work in progress, ensures that projects are in compliance with plans, specifications and codes. Reviews construction work and provides input pertaining to substandard workmanship and/or materials. Coordinates with CAsp Inspectors for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Documents all construction activity in a daily diary kept for each project used to substantiate the work performed, any problems, rejections initiated and any unusual events.
Analyzes and tracks the construction progress schedule to ensure work completed based on the approved contract schedule. Compares progress schedule to the contractor's monthly pay application to substantiate payment request. Provides technical review for cost request bulletins, field instructions, Requests for Information, and change orders. Responsible for budget authorization and fund expenditures related to construction projects.
Supervises and/or performs on-site testing to ensure all required tests are performed. Recommends corrective action on failed tests.
Inspects all delivered materials to ensure compliance with specifications and undamaged condition, reporting all materials that do not meet requirements.
Certifies in writing at the completion of construction that the project was constructed according to contract documents, and confirms that the contractor has provided all documentation before the Notice of Completion is filed by the University with the County Recorder.
Performs the Duties for the Inspector of Record as detailed in SUAM, Sections 9792.05 and 9792.08 (See attached).
Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff.
Works Closely with the Campus Deputy Building Official on code interpretations.
Other Functions:
Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of: regulatory practices, rules and ordinances governing builders' proper construction, use, occupancy, safety and sanitation; construction engineering methods, practices and procedures, and contract management. Comprehensive knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, fire, electrical, Title 24, and other applicable codes. Data collection, statistical analysis techniques and basic budgeting principles. Comprehensive knowledge of construction, engineering methods, contract management and California Building and Safety codes, State and Federal codes and local ordinances. Experience working in a University, a large institutional setting or public works environment. Experience and/or training on PC computers and software.
Skills: Display a high degree of initiative, maturity, integrity, and good judgment.
Ability to: read and interpret construction plans, specifications, surveys and technical reports is necessary; work independently to identify difficult construction issues and develop solutions that represent the best interests of and minimize risk to the University; perform climbing, bending, squatting and kneeling activities that will include, but not be limited to, using ladders to access roofs and manholes; maintain accurate records; and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships within a diverse, academic environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in commercial and/or institutional construction AND two years of experience as an inspector of record on major construction projects with budgets between $1M-$5M. Ability to effectively execute the applicable provisions of the SUAM Guidelines (9792.05 to 9792.08)

Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Oracle-PeopleSoft/CMS baseline system; and Google mail and calendar.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS The Pool Safely Inspector (Grant Funded)-Part Time position is responsible for inspecting existing buildings and dwelling units to determine compliance with city ordinance standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working Conditions
Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.
The Inspector normally works an average of 40 hours per week from a home office with artificial light and temperature control. Inherent in the job is the responsibility and expectation that work weeks of longer duration may be necessary. The ability to use a personal laptop computer on a daily basis is essential, as is daily use of a telephone and fax machine. The position requires extensive travel, driving a vehicle frequently, if not daily, for variable times and distances. The position also requires travel by air within the state and outside of California.
