1961

In 1961, Cedar Crest was incorporated, and a five-member board was named: Helen S. Taylor, Marshall C. Brown, George S. Geffs, Pearl Dawson Graham, and Joseph Lustig.

1966

In 1966, Cedar Crest had 70 residents and began transforming into a full-service retirement community.

1970

In 1970, the health care center opened its doors, providing additional care and adding 95 beds.

1981

Erickson found a site for his first retirement facility while in Washington, D.C., on a business trip in 1981.

1983

1983: Charleston Retirement Community opens on former college campus.

1985

In 1985, Jerry and Charlotte Johnson donated a nearby farm house and land for the development of the Cedar Crest Board of Directors’ adult day care initiative.

1987

The Cedar Acres Adult Day Center opened its doors in 1987.

1992

By September 30, 1992, SCL had sold 1,287 apartment units and planned to accommodate an additional 300 apartments for independent seniors.

Groundbreaking on the $110 million project began in September 1992 and the first phase of independent living apartments opened a year later.

1992: Ford Motor Company approaches Erickson to build and manage life care retirement community on the birthplace of Henry Ford.

1995

In March 1995, Oak Crest Village opened in Parkville, Maryland, on an 85-acre site only 20 miles from Charlestown.

1998

The Erickson Foundation formed in 1998 to initiate a new wellness program for preventive medicine through a health screening system.

In 1998, the health care center was expanded, and a 44-bed assisted living area was added.

2000

By 2000, Charlestown was the largest continuing care retirement community in the United States, with 2,500 residents, and the waiting list grew to more than 1,300 interested retirees.

2000: Retirees begin moving into new homes at Riderwood Village and Brooksby Village; company is renamed Erickson Retirement Communities (ERC).

2001

In April 2001 ERC announced the development of a retirement community on the site of the former Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster, Pennsylvania.

Cedar Crest Village opened in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, in August 2001, with 274 residents and a community building.

Completed at Seabrook Village in the summer of 2001, the center allowed for changeable floor functions to accommodate the changing needs of nursing the elderly.

2013

In 2013, Cedar Crest celebrates its 50th anniversary of providing outstanding care and services to senior adults in the area.

2016

2016 The Garden Cafe was opened in order to provide a second dining option for residents.

2018

Adopted by the Summit County Council in 2018, the Village Overlay is intended to incentivize cooperation and community design flexibility.

2019

2019 Groundbreaking for Waterford Grove Cottages expansion.
