Job Summary The Reactor Vessel Auxiliary Systems team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer to join the growing Reactor Systems department where you will have the opportunity to work directly on the design, integration, and assembly of the structures, systems, and components (SSCs) within the reactor cavity in a first-of-a-kind FHR. In this role, you will manage and coordinate the detailed layout of reactor cavity components including routing of fuel, salt, and gas lines from the reactor vessel through the bio-shield, locating remote handling accessible instrumentation, and standardizing common components and features. The position requires a strong aptitude for mechanical design, systems engineering, and high temperature components under irradiation. You will regularly interface with multi-disciplinary teams including nuclear design, civil structures, remote handling, reactor coolant auxiliary systems, reactor systems, safety analysis, instrumentation & controls, and plant design integration. You will work closely with these teams to implement component and instrumentation standardization, collaborate on SSC design, and develop a cavity layout that meets safety analysis, construction, and maintenance requirements for FHR demonstration reactors. Responsibilities Own and manage the 3D layout and spatial integration of all components within the reactor cavity including reactor vessel and support systems, instrumentation, shielding, and maintenance interfaces. Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and I&C design teams to define spatial, thermal, and functional interfaces between the reactor vessel, cavity systems, and bio-shield. Lead design integration reviews to ensure structures, systems, and component designs are compatible and accessible for installation and maintenance. Develop and implement standardized layouts, component interfaces, and remote maintenance connection strategies to streamline manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance operations. Establish and maintain common connection standards for electrical and gas connections, inspection devices, and instrumentation access. Collaborate with I&C engineers to define sensor and cabling layouts within the cavity for radiation monitoring, temperature, pressure, and neutron flux instrumentation. Engineering Technical Support This position is responsible for assisting with the engineering and design requirements for new and existing substations throughout the AES Ohio system. Assist with the engineering design for all or parts of substations, carrying out specific job assignments including: preparation of specifications, evaluations of proposals, design of physical substation layouts and control systems, construction management and field engineering. Responsibilities: · Assist in maintaining substation prints, design standards, and various databases. · Assist with project documentation procedures. · Perform specific assignments by learning and applying effective engineering, planning and organizing skills. · Assist in the planning, design and construction management of substation projects. · Work under supervision of experienced engineers, receives guidance in the use of AES Ohio engineering and construction standards as well as utility industry nomenclature and guidelines. · Complete assigned special projects including research, analysis and recommendations to Management. · Perform other work as assigned by Manager. The Plant Support Engineer identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves plant issues and acts as a liaison between engineering team and Operations, Production, and Maintenance departments. This position works with occasional supervision or direction to form assigned tasks and coordinate assigned initiatives through completion. Develops engineering products in accordance with defined standards and procedures. Participates in project teams for critical on-line system outages and/or refueling outages. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or other closely related scientific discipline/physical science generally associated with power plant operations or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at the engineer/technical specialist level.) Experience in nuclear power design Engineering, Systems Engineering, operations or equivalent required. All levels of experience will be considered but a minimum of 4 years engineering experience is preferred. Experience with an EFIN (Engineering Fix It Now) organization is highly desired Excellent communication skills required SRO license or certification on a PWR or BWR; Professional Engineering license strongly preferred Physical ability and desire to support plant walk downs and inspections. Experience/proficiency in PC use and engineering-specific applications and Electrical Print reading. * Final pay grade will be determined based on experience and qualifications Key Metrics: Teamwork and collaboration skills across organizational boundaries.
