In 1996, Michael F. Neidorff joined the company as chief executive.

1997

1997: The company is renamed Centene Corporation, and its corporate office is established in St Louis, Missouri.

1999

On January 6, 1999, Envolve Pharmacy Solutions (formerly US Script) was formed to meet the demand for responsive pharmacy benefit management services that would proactively address client concerns and be flexible enough to meet future needs.

2000

With more than 69 000 employees in more than 50 states, Centene Corporation is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world, according to Forbes.

2001

2001: With three health plans, $327 million in revenue and 235,000 members, Centene becomes a publicly traded company.

2003

2003: Adds Cenpatico, a behavioral health services company; Centene debuts on the New York Stock Exchange.

2004

2004: Centene reports $1 billion in revenue; expands in Ohio as Buckeye Health Plan.

2006

On January 1, 2006, Centene Corporation added Envolve Pharmacy Solutions to its specialty services division, CenCorp Health Solutions.

In 2006, the firm acquired US Scripte, a pharmacy benefits manager.

2008

2008: Acquires Celtic Group, Inc., a commercial insurance product company.

2009

2009: Expands into Florida and Massachusetts.

2010

2010: Joins the FORTUNE 500 list of largest United States corporations by revenue; adds NovaSys Health in Arkansas.

2011

2011: Adds Illinois and Mississippi health plans.

In 2011, the firm formed Centurion, a provider of correctional health care services, as a joint venture with MHM Services.

2012

2012: Operations for correctional healthcare services begin.

2013

2013: Grows to $10 billion in revenue and 2.7 million members.

2014

2014: Ambetter brand introduced for Health Insurance Marketplace products; enters two international markets, Spain and the United Kingdom; adds United States Medical Management (USMM), an in-home health services company.

Centene began offering state-run Medicaid programs. through Affordable Care Act exchanges in 2014.

2015

On July 2, 2015, Centene announced it would acquire Health Net.

2016

2016: Acquires Health Net and launches the Envolve brand for specialty whole-health solution companies.

2017

2017: Expands operational footprint in Nebraska, Nevada, Maryland and New York.

In the United Kingdom, Centene began to acquire local healthcare services in 2017.

2018

2018: Adds Pennsylvania and New York health plans; launches the Allwell Medicare Advantage brand.

In 2018, it acquired MHM Services, including its stake in Centurion.

2019

In March 2019, it announced plans to acquire WellCare for US$17.3 billion.

2019: Continued growth and innovation leads to being listed No.

In 2019, Centene, through its subsidiary MH Services, took a 40% stake in Circle Health, as part of a deal which created a national network of over 50 private hospitals.

2020

2020: Combines with WellCare to create a premier healthcare enterprise serving more than 23 million members across all 50 states in the United States

2021

On January 4, 2021, it was announced that it would acquire Magellan Health for $2.2 billion.

2022

On January 4, 2022, the acquisition was completed.
