Our Financial Lines Underwriting Team is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and sales skills to fill an Executive Underwriter opportunity on our Commercial D&O team in Chicago to focus on growing our wholesale brokerage book of business.
This position is a wholesale focused executive underwriter role that will contribute to the growth and profitability of our Private, Not-For-Profit, and Public Directors & Officers, Employment Practices, and Fiduciary Liability product lines through marketing, underwriting, and general product management. Some risks may require special handling or unusual coverages, including manuscript policy development. The position demonstrates functional technical knowledge of relevant underwriting concepts, practices, procedures, and techniques, to include; coverage issues, multiple product lines, marketing, relevant systems, and competition in the market place. Strong Midwest wholesale broker relationships are required. Territory includes Midwest United States.
Job Responsibilities:
Underwrites targeted new and renewal business by reviewing and analyzing insured\'s (or prospective insured\'s) applications, financials, loss history, and all other pertinent information at the direction of the manager.
Reviews and negotiates policy terms and conditions.
Establishes and maintains strong professional and personal relationships with the regional wholesale brokerage community to facilitate growth of the Financial Lines book, with the goal of driving new business and maintaining profitable/critical renewals.
Makes independent marketing calls to brokers and prospective insureds.
Contributes to the development of marketing plans, product analysis, services, geographic focus and broker intelligence.
Performs related duties as requested to include, report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the product line unit.
Qualifications:
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience
RPLU or professional insurance designation preferred
Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposes
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business

Responsibilities
Analyzes, investigates, and evaluates the loss to determine coverage and claim disposition.
Utilizes Claim System to document claims and to diary future events or follow-up.

Makes recommendations to set reserves at appropriate level for claims outside of authority level.

Draft and manage coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, declination letters and coverage litigation strategy; coordinate coverage counsel where appropriate.

Coordinate with reinsurance, underwriting and subrogation teams on coverage, recovery and allocation issues; manage reporting and ceded claims processes.
Set and maintain appropriate reserves for complex and catastrophic exposures; explain reserve rationale to senior management and auditors.
Mentor, train and advise claims staff and less experienced examiners on coverage interpretation and complex claim strategies; act as an internal resource and SME.
Monitor case law, regulatory and legislative developments affecting CGL and casualty coverage; translate trends into actionable practice updates and training.
Participate in cross-functional special projects (policy language review, claim handling playbooks, major loss response) and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
* Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
* A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience
* CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
* Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
* Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposes
* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
* Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues

The Field Property Claims Adjuster will be traveling locally to insured homes within Lemont, IL (60440) and surrounding areas. To be successful within the role, candidates should live within or near this area.

What you'll do
Investigate and evaluate onsite to resolve complex coverage and damage issues to include preparing complete estimates of repair for the covered damages. This may include accessing roofs by ladder, inspecting attics, crawl spaces and basements in search of damage.
Handle moderate to complex claims independently while managing your workload, from first notice of loss to final closure.
Be expected to work in a vehicle in the field daily while occasionally handling assignments from the desk.
Explain coverage of loss, assist policyholders with itemization of damages, emergency repairs and additional living arrangements.
Work with and coordinate a few vendor services such as contractors, emergency repair, cleaning services and various replacement services.
May be called upon for catastrophe duty.
Position details
Territory-based work: Most workdays will be spent in the field within your assigned local territory, giving you the opportunity to work directly with customers and gain hands-on experience.
Training & support: To set you up for success, you'll participate in a comprehensive 5-month training program, which includes:
Primarily virtual and on-the-job learning.
Two short in-person training sessions (Weeks 4 and 7) at our Lewisville, TX office.
Limited overnight travel for training and team meetings (typically less than 10%).
Mileage Reimbursement: This role offers mileage reimbursement. You may qualify for a company-provided vehicle once mileage requirements are met. Additional details will be provided if you advance in the selection process.
