CADC company history timeline

1969

The Plan wassigned on March 7, 1969 by Jean Marchand, the Federal Minister ofForestryand Rural Development, and Alexander B. Campbell, the Premier of Prince Edward Island.

1970

During the 1970’s the agency began to develop new programs, including Senior Adult Centers, CETA Job Training, Community Food and Nutrition, Transportation, Family Planning, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Alcohol Abuse and Housing Assistance.

1972

Prior to 1972 it was a part under the Pwi-Lakher Regional Council. It was created on 29th April 1972 under the Sixth Schedule to the constitution of India by trifurcating the Pwi-Lakher Regional Council into Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC), Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) and Chakma Autonomous District Council.

1974

The Charlottetown Area Development Corporation (CADC) was founded in 1974.

1979

The Queen Parkade, built in 1979, was Charlottetown’s first parking garage and has a capacity for 338 cars.

The Confederation Court Mall was officially opened in 1979 – a major downtown infill project that offered significant retail and office space and new hope for the Centre of the City.

1980

CADC began in the late 1980's, after the creation of the current project/panel system, with the formation of regional groups of panel attorneys.

1982

In 1982 a new commercial and office tower was developed and came to be known as the Royal Trust Tower after the first major ground floor tenant.

1990

The 1990’s saw an emphasis on the consumer and the agency began to be more responsive to its various communities and their unique needs.

1995

Confederation Landing Park was constructed and opened in 1995.

In 1995, First District Justice Gary Strankman, who had chaired the committee which became the Appellate Indigent Defense Oversight Advisory Committee (AIDOAC), was a guest speaker at the CADC Annual Conference in San Francisco.

1996

In 1996 CADC reconstructed the CN building known as the Brass Shop, an historic building which became a new Visitor Information Centre for Charlottetown.

2001

The rail yard parking lot is currently owned and operated by CADC. Then in 2001 another historic CN building was renovated into a major interpretative centre for Charlottetown.

2014

CADC celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2014.

2017

In 2017, the State asked CADC to take over the LIHEAP Program in the South West Arkansas counties of Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, and Sevier.

2018

In 2018, CADC became the Community Action Agency for these seven counties, which brings the CADC service area to 19 counties,
