Kaiser Permanente - Southern California Permanente Medical Group has an opening for the Medical Physics Residency Program in Diagnostic Imaging and Nuclear Medicine. The residency program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP). The program provides structured training and progress assessment in all aspects of clinical medical physics in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine, with direct supervision by the medical physics faculty. Training occurs in 15 regional hospitals and affiliated medical offices across Southern California. The curriculum provides comprehensive, mentored, hands-on experience, and progressive responsibility providing the opportunity to work towards becoming fully independent upon completion of the program. The medical physics resident will be expected to work in this training position for 3 years to qualify for both ABR Diagnostic and Nuclear Medical Physics certification exams. Essential Responsibilities: Under supervision, performs acceptance testing on all types of radiological imaging equipment to meet new equipment specifications and baseline image quality assurance metrics. Under supervision, performs radiation dosimetry calculations and computerized data analysis. Assembles supplies needed for examinations and transports patients as needed. Operates and records bone densitometry images of optimal diagnostic quality by set standards and procedures based upon individual patient needs. Completes scans re-analysis and distribution to referring physicians, outpatient records, and bone density files. Performs procedures such as archiving, copying, and sending optical/floppy discs to other facilities as well as archiving database. Retrieves and delivers film jackets as needed. PURPOSE AND SCOPE: The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). You will collaborate with the Medical Director, physician/advanced practice provider, facility administrator, social worker, nurse, and patient care technician to maintain positive relationships with area hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, agencies, vendors, and the community. Current Dietitian (LD/LDN) license in applicable state is required unless employed in the state of AZ, CA, CO, HI, IN, MI, NJ or VA. State certification (Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist) required in CT and NY. License must be maintained as current and in good standing. Under the direction of the Imaging Services Director and Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, performs radiographic diagnostic imaging procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. Operates the radiographic equipment to produce radiographic recorded images of the body. Performs technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes. Essential Responsibilities: Performs specialized and routine diagnostic radiology procedures. Exhibiting a high degree of tact, courtesy, and poise, explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Prepares and positions patient for diagnostic imaging procedures. Adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician. Determines exposure factors based on height, weight, portion of body involved, and degree on penetration required. Moves imaging equipment into specified position. Adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors and produce images of proper detail, density, and accuracy. Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patients bedside. Assists radiologists and other qualified physicians who have a valid CA DHS RHB Supervisor Operator Permit for Fluoroscopy in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations. Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician. Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control. Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed. Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff. Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed. Orients new hires and trains students. Fills in as necessary in the absence of the Supervising Radiology Technologist. Performs other related duties as necessary. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Grade 881 Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience. Education High School Diploma/GED. License, Certification, Registration Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California) Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) Certified Radiologic Technologist - Fluoroscopy Certificate (California) Basic Life Support Additional Requirements: California Venipuncture Certificate; California Mammography Certificate, when required for the position. Specialty Leads must have specialty ARRT and one year experience in that specialty (2). California Mammography Certificate, when required for the position. Ability to perform all general diagnostic and routine fluoroscopic duties on patients of all ages as determined by the employer. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Radiologic Technologist Career Ladder Agreement (1) Radiologic Technologist VI (Lead) Lead Radiologic Technologist: This level requires a CA fluoroscopy permit, CA venipuncture certification, five years of experience and an ARRT (R). Specialty Leads must have Specialty ARRT and meet all Specialty requirements. Existing Lead Radiologic Technologists who do not have ARRT certification will be "grandfathered" to this level in General Diagnostic Radiology and Specialties. (2) Radiologic Technologists without Venipuncture Certification - Working in a Modality where Venipuncture is NOT performed. Radiologic Technologists working on or before October 05 at Kaiser Permanente WITHOUT California Venipuncture Certification in a Modality where it is NOT performed as part of their work assignment will not be required to obtain it. For promotions, transfers or training in a Specialty that requires Venipuncture, the Technologist must obtain CA Venipuncture certification on or before the date of application.
