Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system. Effectively enters, modifies, and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request. Incorporates infection control guidelines while transferring, storing, and transporting sterile packages. Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU's Follows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN. Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics. Must be able the think critically and act quickly to meet the needs of all patients. Applies proper reprocessing procedures and demonstrates competence and skill in the use/operation of all essential equipment in the Central Processing setting, including but not limited to ultra- sonic washers, washer Decontaminators, and steam sterilizers. Performs a variety of cleaning duties. Cleans, disinfects laryngoscopes and glide scopes. Cleans, inspects and maintains instruments/equipment and supplies all equipment is maintained in good working order. Assures proper working condition of equipment through quality assurance testing and reports any and all problems with equipment or facility needs. Acts as liaison with individuals responsible for ordering supplies for sterile processing. Delivers and unloads supplies to appropriate areas and restocks supplies as needed.
