Summary:
Part Time Casual, As Needed for Day Shift Hours
Sterile Processing Technician-Non-Certified are multi-skilled personnel who are responsible for all duties related to the decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of general and specialty surgical instruments, power equipment and endoscopes. They are responsible for the preparation and packaging of instrumentation, quality control testing and monitoring of sterilization equipment, maintaining records and preparation of surgical cases. Assigned duties may also include stocking, cleaning, answering phones, transporting supplies, training peers on industry best practices and providing direct customer service to both operating rooms and external customers.
Responsibilities And Duties:
* Responsible for the decontamination, disinfection and cleaning or various reusable surgical instruments. This can be done via mechanical or handwashing methods, while strictly adhering to OSHA safety standards.
* Demonstrate working knowledge of sterilization process and techniques involving both steam and chemical means. This includes appropriate documentation, storage and transportation. Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.
* Effectively enters, modifies and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request.
* Incorporates infection control guidelines while transferring, storing and transporting sterile packages.
* Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU's
* Follows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN.
* Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics. Must be able the think critically and act quickly to meet the needs of all patients.
* Responsible for aiding in the education and training of fellow associates.

Job Overview
This adjunct position for a Central Service Technician (CST) is for individuals who are interested in developing and teaching the course based of the requirements of the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification exam.
Each candidate must be a Certified Registered Central Service Technician with at minimum one year of clinical experience related to their certification and have at least obtained a bachelor's degree. Prior teaching and course development experience is preferred but not required for consideration for this position.
Adjunct faculty members will be expected to (1) use our course management system (Canvas) and any textbook-specific systems; (2) hold regular office hours to meet with students and reply to student communications in a timely manner; and (3) participate in at least one professional development workshop per year. Job Responsibilities:
Performs decontamination on instruments, equipment, and other items as needed.
Sorts and cleans instruments and equipment by hand and/or washer/disinfectant.
Assembles, wraps, and packages instruments, instrument trays, and supplies.
Sterilizes instruments and supplies using STERRAD, steam and ethylene oxide gas sterilizers as trained.
“Picks” instruments, instrument trays, supplies, in a timely matter for surgery.
Performs basic computer functions using a Windows based system as needed.
Job Requirements:
HS Diploma or GED required.
Certification: IAHCMMM, CBSPD, or AST required.

Must have a thorough understanding of the sterilizer mechanical and chemical indicators, as well as the proper use and interpretation of the biological monitoring system.
* Effectively enters, modifies and searches for relevant information in the instrument tracking system. Demonstrates knowledge of surgical case preparation. Correctly identifies and retrieves pertinent instruments and supplies for scheduled cases or upon request.

Job Description:
Reports to Operations Supervisor or Surgical Technician as required. Performs services related to the setup, reprocessing and care of patient use equipment & surgical instruments. Performs inventory control functions related to supply areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
• An accredited High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Possesses a Sterile Processing certification through HSPA or CBSPD Must maintain certification throughout employment.
• Maintains required CEU's in accordance with certifying body.
• Previous experience in Sterile Processing, Nursing or Surgery with strong commitment to implementing Infection Control, disinfection and sterilization principles required.
• Basic computer competency required.
• Willingness to learn and understand surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and decontamination, and sterile processing equipment.
• Understands and can identify the cleaning products, methods and procedures used in SPD for each item based on manufacturers IFU's preferred.

- Interacts with external customers, such as vendors and surgical reps for the processing of loaner trays and receipt of CEU's
- Follows and promotes industry standards and best practices, as supported by AAMI and AORN.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills while meeting requests of both the operating rooms and external clinics. Must be able the think critically and act quickly to meet the needs of all patients.
- Responsible for aiding in the education and training of fellow associates.

High School or GED (Required)

Requires knowledge of reading, writing and math normally acquired through High school education. Demonstrates ability to work well with others as part of a team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and do basic mathematical calculations. Requires basic computer skills. Less than 1 years Experience in sterile Processing, surgery or related field. may be substituted for work Experience . Must live within 30 minutes of Marion General Hospital
