Experience: Experience should consist of work directly related to programming and maintaining Avaya PBX systems, Avaya key equipment, and installing voice/data wiring. Knowledge of computer network equipment preferred. Must have strong interpersonal skills and a service orientation. Essential Functions: Maintains a high level of expertise of the Avaya PBX system and its features, functions, and programs. Acts as an in‐house expert on the Avaya PBX system and associated equipment. Installs, configures, and tests Avaya PBX hardware components such as trunk cards and line cards. Performs in‐depth technical programming of the Avaya PBX system. Performs installation of telephone or computer wiring where appropriate. Works with the Telecommunications Manager in planning moves involving telephone equipment or wiring. Performs basic troubleshooting tasks on telephone and telecommunications problems. Performs repairs if possible or works with communications vendor to solve problems. Maintains neat and accurate records of the physical components of the Avaya PBX system, including wiring diagrams, system hardware configuration, and routing schematics. Maintains inventory of spare parts to be used for equipment repair and for new equipment installation. Monitors specific security indicators periodically to alert TGC to potential security risks. Responsible for protecting The Guthrie Clinic against the misuse or theft of services by ensuring that the appropriate safeguards are activated on the Avaya PBX system. Performs capacity planning as it pertains to Avaya PBX hardware components, lines, trunks, etc. Monitors incoming and outgoing traffic to ensure the efficient and optimal use of the lines. Makes recommendations to management for the addition of lines and PBX hardware components where appropriate. Other Duties: Travel for this position is sometimes required. Learn and practices quality principles for continuous improvement in all work processes in which s/he is involved. Configure systems hardware, software, and operating system images for bench and field testing. Execute field and bench tests on hardware and software systems. Collect test data, document results, and present information and findings to engineering leadership. Develop scripts to assist in test execution and/or test data collection. Document and track system defects in our issue tracking system (JIRA). Required Skills/Abilities: Strong interest in software testing theory, practices, and technologies. Basic understanding of higher-level computer languages (e g. C+, Java, C#). Familiarity with the Linux operating system. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with basic data analysis and creating data visualizations with Excel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work with others in a team-oriented environment. Details-oriented; self-motivated, able to work independently. Pluses: Strong understanding of, or hands on experience with any of the following: Any variants of the Linux operating system Structured testing design and/or execution Distributed, networked devices Wireless networking, RF technology or the OSI network model Writing and modifying scripts, configuring/managing embedded hardware, software, and small form-factor devices. Qualifications: Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, CIS, or equivalent. Must be enrolled full-time at the college/university level.
