We are currently looking for a Sample Receiving Associate to join our growing team! JOB SUMMARY The Sample Receiving Associate is responsible for entering data into the Certified Laboratories Information Management System (LIMS) in a timely and accurate manner. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Logging of customer samples into the LIMS system with accuracy. Uses products as needed. Ensure timeliness, accuracy and reliability work. Ensures adherence to the daily work schedule. Makes suggestions and recommendations regarding product/specs. that would aid in logging. Perform clerical review to ensure accuracy. Ensures all samples are labeled correctly and stored at the appropriate temperatures until testing can occur. Ensure the sample receiving room is cleaned and maintained. Participates in special projects as assigned by the Manager/Supervisor. Keeps the Manager/Supervisor informed of issues or problems within the department. Interacts with clients, suppliers and vendors as required. Learns new techniques and technologies and trains others as appropriate. Works effectively with other departments. Responsible for the execution of all ISO and QC requirements. Performs all other duties as required or assigned. Stocks/orders supplies as needed (labels, boxes etc.) Assists with the return of customer coolers. Other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AS degree in Science and appropriate industry specific experience or BS degree. Knowledge of good aseptic technique and behaviors that can reduce cross contamination. Good conceptual basis in laboratory setting with proven ability to perform basic lab techniques. Critical thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Excellent organizational skills - ability to use your time, energy, resources, etc. in an effective manner. Time management - one's own time and the time of others. Training - teaching and guiding others how to complete a process from beginning to end. Strong relevant qualitative and quantitative skills. Excellent arithmetic skills - using mathematics to solve problems. Good communication skills - speaking, reading, writing and listening. Manual dexterity. Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 40 lbs. Essential Responsibilities * Prepare and maintain bacteriological media and chemical solutions. * Safely operate an autoclave to sterilize media, reagents, and supplies. * Label, handle, store, use, and dispose of media and solutions in accordance with safety guidelines. * Maintain an accurate inventory of prepared media and supplies. * Collaborate with other departments to prepare required media in a timely manner. * Perform work in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner; maintain cleanliness and equipment within the department. * Follow established processes, procedures, and techniques in accordance with company policies/procedures, customer requirements, and the media operations manual. * Maintain laboratory conditions, equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures. * Share information in an open and timely manner to support team collaboration. * Complete required training and comply with safety and quality programs. The role is responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Prepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries * Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload * Maintain media and reagents as needed for daily microbiological testing * Inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements * Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal * Perform quality control monitoring by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc. * Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with company policies/procedures and customer requirements * Maintain laboratory condition, to include equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures * Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner * Share information in an open, and timely manner * Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team * Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area * Responsible for the completion of required training MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Life Science or two years of laboratory experience, preferred * Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory * Ability to travel is preferred * Or equivalent combination of education and experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components * Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens * Noise level varies from quiet to loud * Temperature varies from hot to cold * Interactive and fast-paced team oriented tasks * Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. * Color vision and depth perception Benefits: * Progressive 401k Retirement Savings Plan * Employer Paid Short- Term and Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance * Group Medical * Tuition Reimbursement * Flexible Spending Accounts * Dental * Paid Holidays and Time Off Certified Group values diversity in its workforce. Your mission will be to: Purpose (Objective): The incumbent prepares samples for processing and maintains documentation of process to facilitate testing procedures. Main Activities: ● Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending ● Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be tracked ● Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process being performed ● Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process ● Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of time and temperature ● Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required ● Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence ● Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities ● Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis ● Read plates and tubes, as required, to determine the number of organisms in the sample ● Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process ● Perform necessary housekeeping duties in a timely manner, keeping the work areas and equipment clean and sanitized ● Must participate in cleaning schedule and maintain retain samples as required ● Adhere to all safety policies ● Responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation maintenance, and improvement of the management system ● Perform other related tasks as needed YOUR PROFILE Must be able to work evenings and weekends Profile (required education/qualification and professional background): HS Diploma and 1+ year relevant work,. The incumbent must have a basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. A basic knowledge of personal computers is useful to accurately enter testing data and results. A basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Planning skills are useful to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time. Required skills: Time management skills, ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast paced environment. Attention to detail. Analytical skills are essential to complete analysis procedures and determine the concentration of the microorganism. A general knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System is required to process client data. Physical dexterity is required for manipulating samples. Work Environment: The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur when in the laboratory. Safety equipment of gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may need to be worn depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete the analysis process. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds are necessary to transport media materials. The incumbent can expect extended time spent in a standing position.
