Under general supervision of the assigned Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and with direction of other facility personnel, the MedicalAssistant (Med Tech) will distribute medications to assigned juveniles/cadets on a set schedule, will observe individual juveniles/cadets ingesting their medications and will read the Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) in a timely manner for juveniles/cadets when needed and instructed by the LVN. Medication aide will also assist the LVN in packaging medications to the extent allowed to by Texas law. Medication aide will also assist the LVN in quality assurance of the detention center and boot camp facilities by executing certain monthly or quarterly audits, organizing the sick call list per day and assisting in "first response" should a medical emergency issue arise.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:

* Current Texas Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record;
* Must have an automobile and current automobile insurance;
* Must be over twenty-one (21) years of age (for state certification requirements);

* Receive verbal/written orders from the LVN, noting special reactions to watch for;
* Verify all medications are secured and accounted for in transport medication cart;
* Match juvenile/cadet to medication;
* Observe juvenile/cadet take medication;
* Document time, place, any observations, reactions or complaints and report any issues immediately to the LVN or appropriate supervisor;
* Document juvenile/cadets refusal to take medication;

* Normal office functions such as filing, copying, making new medication forms, completing routine reports;

PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Refugio Unaccompanied Children Shelter and Foster Care Program provide 24-hour care and services serves infants, toddlers, tender age, and standard age children in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. POSITION OVERVIEW The MedicalAssistant will perform assigned medical care activities in the shelter. This position will assist in the documentation of medical activities including daily/monthly reports, escorting children to Medical, Specialty, Dental, Vision and Hearing services, Laboratory, imaging services, processing Treatment Authorization Requests (TARS), updating the UC Portal, and patient record processing. This employee works closely with Health Care Providers and Dental Providers, Youth Care Staff, and other related departments. Must be computer literate. Must be current with BLS/CPR. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
