POSITION SUMMARY
The CertifiedMedicalAssistant (CMA) at Borland Groover coordinates patient care under the direction of the provider, including both direct and indirect patient care, patient and family education, and care transitions. The CMA must collaborate with the providers in the clinical area to maximize efficient patient flow within a fast-paced Gastroenterology specialty practice.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Efficiently room patients, obtain & record vital signs, patient history, medication reconciliation, and allergies.
Drives customer service initiatives by creating and owning the patient experience.
Pre-check charts for patients scheduled to be seen in the office, ensuring all necessary results and records are present for review.
Assist provider with physical examinations on patients as needed.
Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications (under the order of a physician).
Performs a variety of office responsibilities, including answering the phone, taking messages, and performing triage within the scope of MA practice in an accurate and timely manner.
Review instructions for medications and diet with patients.
Send referrals to other physicians-examples: surgeons, Hematology, Oncology, etc.
Process and review patient education pertaining to their ongoing care and when necessary to HIPAA appointed care provider prior to implementation.
Administer and document vaccines according to the provider's order.
Maintain accurate documentation, including, but not limited to, clinical notes in electronic health records.
Process all prescription refills and authorization under the direction of the provider-document in the electronic health record.
Covers other clinical team members as needed and may require phone call coverage or clinic coverage, which may include some travel to different offices.
Send physicians' procedures and hospital lists to the coding and hospital desk.
Check the charts at the end of the day to ensure that everything has been completed, scheduled, and signed off.
Practices universal precautions.
This job requires access to Personal Health Information (PHI), HIPAA training is required, and HIPAA compliance is expected.
Participate in training and compliance initiatives as needed (policy changes, procedure changes, etc.).
Review and process PAQ/Clinical Tasks as directed by your provider.
Place recalls at the provider's discretion.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Office Management, Office Manager, and Clinical Lead.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide/Educate prep information for each Direct Access procedure (DAP) and procedure recall patients.
Stock and clean exam rooms.
Must follow the organization's Code of Conduct.

Provide basic wound care, including cleaning and dressing, with consideration for limited resources and potential environmental challenges in a shelter, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Monitor patients' vital signs and overall condition, and report any changes or abnormalities to the appropriate medical personnel, including the ability to quickly identify and triage patients with urgent medical needs.
Perform basic life support (BLS) and other emergency medical interventions as needed, within the constraints of a shelter setting.
Assist in the operation of medical equipment, such as oxygen delivery systems, IV pumps, and cardiac monitors, safely and effectively, and ensure equipment is functional and available in the shelter.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, and outcomes, using appropriate documentation methods for a shelter environment.
Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care practices, with consideration for the diverse backgrounds and literacy levels of shelter residents.
Collaborate with physicians, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals as well as shelter staff and volunteers to coordinate patient care and ensure optimal outcomes.
Adhere to all infection control and safety protocols to prevent the spread of disease and maintain a safe environment within the shelter setting.

Obtaining laboratory samples and complete associated paperwork such as lab slips and other forms when needed
2) Performs directed procedures such as EKG, nebulizer treatments, ear irrigation, suture removal, wound dressings, PPD testing, HIV testing (if credentialed), venipuncture and other directed procedures in accordance with OSHA and CLIA guidelines 3) Administers medications under the supervision of the primary care provider; assist in the preparation of medications for patients as needed 4) Closes patient examination process by providing check out slips and required patient instructions 5) Prepares examination rooms and ensures rooms are stocked with needed supplies; maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and lab drawing area 6) Cleans and sterilizes instruments and disposes of contaminated supplies 7) Completes all relevant charting, documentation and follow-up. Fills out and maintains patient-related paperwork, including federal- and state-mandated forms, diagnostic records, and progress notes, documentation for PPD testing, pregnancy testing, labs and pap smears 8) Assists in the coordination of specialty clinics as required, including maintenance of exam rooms, supplies and clinic records 9) Tracks laboratory results and provides monthly numbers for required reports 10) Follows universal precautions to protect self and patients 11) Participates in all appropriate team meetings and required training sessions. 12) Participates in other clinical or administrative projects as assigned by the Clinic or Health Services Operations Directors

Work Environment
This is a patient-facing role primarily performed indoors. The position requires operating a computer and exposure to potential hazards. The role involves physical activities such as reaching outward and above the shoulder, manual dexterity, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 10 lbs. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm, with a shift on Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturdays from 7:45 am to 12:30 pm on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
1 year of experience as a CNA or PCT in a short-term skilled nursing facility OR acute care OR post-acute care inpatient hospital required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
