Medical Scribes must be discreet, tactful, and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good attendance is also an important element of this job since you will be hard to replace.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions: The scribe should be able to accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: Patient medical history and physical exam Procedures and treatments performed by the physician Entering orders for lab tests, imaging studies and referrals to other providers in the electronic medical record system During times when there are not scribe responsibilities, the individual will work on research data entry or analysis for the physician in support of his research mission. Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Division Director of Intensive Behavioral Services, the Program/MedicalAssistant supports medical and medication operations in collaboration with the medical provider, nurse, and treatment team. This role coordinates initial primary care appointments upon admission and partners with internal programs and external providers for ongoing care coordination. The Program/MedicalAssistant manages triage calls and communication with clients and community providers to support smooth transitions from the program, and transports clients to appointments when needed. Additional responsibilities include providing clinical support as directed, such as lab draws, administering injections, and monitoring clients following injections.
Essential Duties
Establish primary care appointments for newly admitted clients and provide updates on medical needs and progress during treatment team meetings.
Monitor client medications during medication times and train staff on medication policy and procedures and how to monitor medications.
Pick up newly prescribed medications as needed, accurately document medication changes in the shift log, and promptly communicate any discrepancies, concerns, or client-related issues to the medical provider.
Coordinate, track, and maintain follow-up medical appointments on the client appointment calendar with internal and external providers, ensuring clients are informed and prepared.
Communicate with VOA programs, clinics, hospitals, medical/dental providers, and pharmacies to coordinate medications, records, referrals, and continuity of care.
Triage medical situations with medical and treatment team raised by clients and staff
Maintain proper patient medication storage.
Maintain facility emergency kits with adequate medical supplies.
Audit medication logs, storage areas to ensure only current client medications are being stored and report to RN/Program Manager any issues.
Work with staff manager bi-weekly to dispose of medications left behind or that need to be discarded according to VOA policy.
Record keeping. Ensure all paperwork related to client medications is completed properly, managed confidentially, and stored in the appropriate location.
Maintain a spreadsheet of clients connected with Librium or other MAT.
Ensure daily NARC counts are completed and reported at each shift change. Report discrepancies to Program Manager/RN.
Ensure an incident report on all emergency or critical incidents is complete by the end of shift.
Attend work as scheduled and arrive at the designated time.
Work must be performed on-site due to the need to provide direct client care.
Secondary Duties
Maintain positive, professional interactions with community resources
Attend daily team meetings and weekly treatment teams. Attending all other staff meetings and training courses as assigned.
Transport clients to appointments, if necessary, as per VOA policy.
Utilize de-escalation skills to manage client crisis by adhering to the De-escalation Training. Utilize supervisory support as needed.
Follow all licensing and health department rules and regulations.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of agency prescribers and Division Director of Treatment Services, the MedicalAssistant/Care Navigator performs routine administrative and clinical support functions to assist the prescribers including: answering phones, scheduling appointments, facilitating client communication with prescribers, tracking and managing referrals for medication management services or primary care services, and assisting clients in tracking their medication. Essential Duties
* Act as a support person for the APRNs. Facilitate communication between prescribers and clients as well as between prescribers and other clinic staff.
* Manage the APRNs' appointment schedule to capacity and eliminate no-shows, including scheduling appointments, making reminder calls, and rescheduling as needed.
* Track clients' medications and assist in completing patient assistance applications.
* Facilitate medication refills when needed and appropriate. Provide medication injections and draw labs when needed.
* Engage and build rapport with clients, assist with referrals to link and connect clients with services and resources including primary care, mental health treatment, addiction treatment, recovery support, employment specialists, housing specialists and other social supports.
* Coordinate care with existing internal and external providers at the point of admission, discharge and level of care changes. Track and facilitate referrals to PCPs.
* Screen and monitor clients' common co-morbidities while also educating both consumers and other team members on potential side effects of treatments and medications to support safe, informed care.
* Communicate and coordinate care with other medical professionals (e.g., pharmacy employees, medication representatives, other treatment providers).
* Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively on the phone, in writing and via email, as well as the ability to exercise discretion on sensitive and confidential matters.
* Maintain records according to requirements, completing all documentation and billing in a timely manner, and in compliance with professional standards.

Secondary Duties

Providing Patient Care: Under the direction of the Clinician, providing care to patients by assisting the provider to gather information that is relative to the patient's visit and condition.

Minimum Qualifications
This position requires one of the following: Proof of completion of a MedicalAssistant program OR at least one year of MedicalAssistant work experience OR current active and in good standing RN/LPN license to practice nursing in the state where applying
Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Must be obtained prior to start date
Demonstrated basic computer skills involving word processing and data entry.
Professional manner and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with patients and fellow caregivers to deliver the highest level of customer/patient satisfaction.
Ability to protect privacy, confidentiality, and Protected Health Information (PHI) of patients, members, and caregivers.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an outpatient clinic or other healthcare setting.
Computer literacy in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software.
Current national MA certification from one of the following national MA certifications or registrations: Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA) of AMT, National CertifiedMedicalAssistant (NCMA), Certified Clinical MedicalAssistant (CCMA) or CertifiedMedicalAssistant (CMA) of the AAMA
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
