Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse supervisor or charge nurse and the Director of Nursing.
Qualifications:
Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions provided by the facility and effectively communicate with supervisors, staff and residents. Must be certified as a CertifiedMedication Aide.
Follow written and oral direction.
Follow the policies and procedures of the facility governing the administering of medications to residents (drug administration as well as drug destruction).
Note and report errors in the administration of medication.
Complete necessary forms, charts, reports as required.
Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document the oral and/or topical medications that are commonly used in this facility and that may be ordered for resident use by the attending physician or the Medical Director. Verify that any medications brought into the facility by a newly admitted resident are examined and identified by the attending physician or the facility pharmacy or pharmacist.
Follow the labeling policies and practices of the facility and that all medications administered are properly labeled.
Assist in documenting and removing medications that are discontinued by the attending physician.
Follow facility procedures governing drug receipt errors, including notifying the delivery source and the Director of Nursing.
Follow facility procedures in holding medications for residents who are transferred from the facility or when a medication is discontinued by the attending physician.
Accurately measure records and report the vital signs of the residents.
Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered including reason(s) for refusal.
Promptly notify the Charge Nurse, Supervisor or DON of any errors or reactions to medications by residents.
Follow the medication card practices of the facility.
Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed,dated order from the attending physician.
Follow the facility procedure for recording the order in the resident's clinical record, including the type, route, dosage, frequency and strength of each medication.
Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication treatment.
Follow the facility's procedures allowing resident to self-administer their medications.
Assist in monitoring and documenting all aspects of such self-administering.
Follow established guidelines concerning the storage of drugs and biological.
Be familiar with the meaning and usage of common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms relative to the administration of medications as used by the facility, pharmacists and physicians.
Identify safety hazards and emergency situations, and report to immediate supervisor.
Attend all in-service classes as assigned and complete assignments.
Assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
Maintain confidentiality of residents and facility information.
Consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, restorative nurses, other nursingassistants, physicians, families, consultant personnel, and ancillary service providers.
Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
Assume accountability for data contained in the employee handbook.
Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
Follow Residents' Rights policies at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
Organized and detailed in work performance.
Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
Comply with the Resident' Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.

About the Opportunity
The Medication Aide administers prescribed medications and treatments to residents who need assistance in accordance with state regulatory stipulations and requirements for safe administration. Observes the resident taking the medication, notes effects including any unexpected or adverse effects, correctly documents the required information in the residents' medication administration records, communicates any concerns or observations with the Wellness Director, Wellness Coordinator or designated personnel. The Medication Aide also supports residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, socialization, cognition, and physical health. Encourages resident independence, supports resident choice and preserves resident dignity through professional conduct and interactions.

Summary of Role
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical MedicalAssistant plays a vital role in supporting our orthopedic surgeons and healthcare team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative tasks. The MA is responsible for aiding the provider in administering patient care, assisting with medical procedures, managing patient records, and ensuring the efficient operation of the clinical environment. This position requires a compassionate individual with strong organizational skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Requirements:
Assist with patient intake and record medical history.
Measure and record patient vital signs.
Greet patients and escort them to the treatment room.
Prepare patients for examination and procedure.
Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
Sterilize equipment before and after treatment and safely dispose of used items.
Clean treatment rooms to avoid infection and prepare it for future patients.
Collaborate with Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners to plan and execute patient care plan.
Oversee and teach others the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to perform clinical techniques and routines.
Safely and sensitively remove and/or apply medical equipment such as sutures, staples, external fixators, casts, and splints.
Explain medication or equipment instructions to patients based on the provider's prescription or direction.
Maintain and update patient records in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Ensure accuracy and confidentiality of patient information.
Enter various imaging, therapy, and consult referrals into EPIC based on provider orders.
Ensure sufficient stock of supplies in exam rooms, maintaining proper sterilization and maintenance of medical instruments and equipment.
Return patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; documents action taken in patient chart.
Implement physician-approved clinical protocols and patient care and triage standards, facilitating all paperwork and related tasks.
Triage incoming telephone calls and messages; instructs patient and family regarding treatment instructions.
Maintain patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a medicalassistant, preferably in an orthopedic or specialty clinic.
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, preferably EPIC.
Current certification as a CertifiedMedicalAssistant (CMA) or Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA). Athletic Training Certification, CertifiedNursingAssistant, and/or Orthopaedic Technician Certification/Registration
Strong clinical skills, including knowledge of orthopaedic procedures and terminology.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in using medical equipment and technology.
Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Ability to handle medical instruments, stand for extended periods, assist patients with mobility, and perform physically demanding tasks.
Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to lift and move patients and heavy medical equipment safely.
Work primarily in a clinical setting with exposure to patient care environments.
Must be able to travel between the clinic sites.
