    The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for accurately administering and documenting medications to Heartspring students in a school and residential group home setting. This is a 2nd shift position, Monday - Thursday 1pm - 9pm. Primary Functions Verify accuracy of medications to be administered to students. Setup, distribute, and document prescribed medications to students in the Heartspring School and residential group homes. Ensure controlled substances are accurately tracked and signatures for any removals have been obtained prior to removal. Assist with the preparation of medications for student travel days and parent visitations. Administer insulin based on patient specific protocols. Inventory on-hand medications and order refills as needed. Assist with the delivery of medication refills for the group homes. Ensure compliance with Kansas DCF regulations regarding medication storage and labeling. Perform and record refrigerator temperature checks twice daily. Inform Heartspring RN or APRN of any health-related concerns observed. Audits medication records for error reports that are not turned in or completed. Relay information and communication between the Medical Office and second shift and/or weekend direct care providers (DCPs) regarding medication changes or medically ordered treatments. Secondary Functions Perform vital sign, height, and weight checks as ordered or required. Inventory and re-stock first aid kits in the group homes and classrooms on a monthly and as needed basis. Check-in cycle fill medications and pharmacy deliveries as they arrive. Other duties as may be assigned by supervisors. Requirements Educational, Training, and Licensure Requirements Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistance (CNA) certification preferred. Will consider training the right candidate. Prefer six (6) months experience as CMA and/or CNA. Prefer experience working with individuals with developmental complexities. 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. Must have flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must complete all required orientation and training conducted by Heartspring staff. Must maintain current CPR certification. Must maintain current NCI certification. Qualifications Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position. Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail and thoroughly complete assigned tasks. Ability to enter accurate and timely information into a computer program or system using a keyboard. Ability to listen effectively and obtain information from others. Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable to fulfill obligations. Must be honest, ethical, and have the ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work with minimum supervision and also function as a team member. Ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, socio-economic, and linguistic backgrounds. Responsibilities The Medical Assistant will be caring for patients in the following capacity: * Assists provider with exams (including patient vitals), procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision of the Provider and within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant. * Administers all forms of medications per policy and Provider direction and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration. * Will perform blood draws as per direction of the Provider * May be responsible for urine collection for various testing to include employer drug screens * May perform splinting and casting * Conduct various type physicals such as sports physicals * Performs other related duties specific to urgent care such as ear lavage, wound care and oxygen administration. * Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report. * Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns. * Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies. * Must be proficient in EMR/EHR * Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy. As a Medical Assistant, you may also be asked to support Front Office Reception. When working in the front office you will perform such duties as: keeping patients and families informed of wait times, monitor the flow of patients, process patients for discharge including preparing charges, collecting payment, obtaining all necessary signatures and issuing receipts. How you will make an impact The Medical Assistant supports the organization with customer service and treating all of our patients with respect and dignity. They ensure the clinic and front reception area is running smoothly and patient flow at the optimum, as well as provide patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient. Essential Education, Experience and Skills: Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; AND * Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program. OR * Completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following: * American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or * American Medical Technologists (AMT) -- provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; or * National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification OR * Completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND was employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion OR must have VERIFIABLE work experience directly supervised by Provider or Physician Group for a minimum of 2000 hours or 1 year.
