Ensures that the narcotic medication counts are done appropriately and in accordance to policy. Assists in the administration of medications as needed Is familiar with the Progressive Discipline Protocol for medication errors Provide leadership and oversight when the Administrator and Nurse Manager is not available. Responsible for staffing to meet ratios set by regulations and staffing profiles as set by Annandale, filling empty shifts, and covering call outs. Assist with break coverage for team members. Ensure completion and accuracy of shift documentation (MAR, POC, PCC NUTRITION, INCIDENT REPORTS, etc) Report daily Assisted Living Community shift updates to Administrator and Nurse Manager. Assist with monitoring and checking the physical condition and upkeep of the Assisted Living Community using the Assisted Living Community Inspection check list. Job Description Pay up to $17.50 Summary of Duties of the Resident Care Assistant The primary responsibility of the Resident Care Assistant (RCA) is to provide physical and psychosocial care to all residents in a manner that promotes dignity, choice, and individuality. Assists residents with personal correspondence/telephone use when requested. Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to Wellness Director or supervisor, as needed. Conducts room checks and resident rounds. Monitors for environmental safety hazards. Respond to emergencies in a prompt and calm manner; Immediately reports such emergencies to the supervisor. Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations. Follows-up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns. Non-Essential Functions of the Resident Care Assistant Participates in and supports the resident-centered activities program. Care for sensory enhancement devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids. Completes housekeeping tasks such as bed-making, linen changes, vacuuming, emptying trash, and cleaning bathroom. Acts as ambassador and public relations representative to guests and other off-campus visitors. Copies special paperwork or forms. Assists in a variety of tasks related to dining (escort residents to dining room, assist with set-up and clean tables, serve meals, bus tables, etc.). Assist with serving meals and supervise caregiver staff in the dining room. Ensure that dining room is cleaned after each meal service. Control the spread of infection by following standard precautions. Dispose of infectious and potentially infectious waste according to residence policy and procedures. Establish and maintain a good relationship with residents and their families. Respond to resident emergencies following the proper procedures. Check each of the six "rights" of medication assistance three different times: when the medication is taken out of the medication cart, immediately before assisting with the medication, and immediately after assisting with the medication Administer medications to residents according to their Medication Observation Record (MOR) and protect resident privacy. Provide residents with any treatments required as part of their Resident Care Plan as designated. Document clearly and accurately on the Medication Observation Record (MOR) after a medication is taken/given, refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, following the Oaks Senior Livening policy. Respect the residents' right to refuse medication/treatment. Protect the residents' safety with medications. Explain to the resident what medication is being given and why, prior to assisting with medication. Observe the resident for any adverse reaction to a medication and report it to the Wellness Director and/or the Executive Director immediately. Report all medication errors honestly and immediately. Communications Attend all regular staff meetings and required in-service training sessions. Effectively communicate residents' needs with caregiver staff at change of shift according to the Oaks Senior Living policies and procedures. Purpose To perform non-professional direct patient care duties under the supervision of nursing personnel and to assist in maintaining a positive physical, social, emotional and spiritual environment for the residents. Essential Functions Job Functions Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s). Documents all functions related to medication management as required by regulation, and by community protocols as defined in the medication training program. Obtains, receives, and stores medication(s) from pharmacy. Participates in the medication training program and demonstrates competency per the competency checklist. Maintains order, cleanliness in medication storage area. Assist residents with daily bath, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for activities within the community, reminders of medical appointments, and basic room care. Provide functions as directed by supervisor including daily and ongoing records including vital signs, weight and measure residents, and observe and report presence of skin breakdowns; review care plans daily; report changes in resident conditions to supervisor ; and, record all necessary charting entries and report all accidents and incidents. Prepare residents for meals and snacks and perform after-meal resident care. Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity and respect; know and comply with Residents' Rights rules; and promptly report all resident complaints, accidents and incidents to supervisor. Assist as directed in proper admission, transfer and discharge of residents, inventory resident possessions and report defective equipment to administration. Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established infections control, hazardous communication and other safety rules; ensure cleanliness of assigned residents' rooms; properly maintain and record resident restraints; and, promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to supervisor. Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities and staff meeting. Any other tasks, assignments, projects or requests as deemed by management. Qualifications High School education preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must read, write, speak and understand English. Completion of training program for certification. Previous experience with geriatric nursing preferred. Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering basic first aid and resident care. Basic understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques. Good physical and mental health; neat, clean, well groomed and responsible. Patience, tact, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward the elderly. Must have upper body strength adequate to bend, lift, shift, move, and/or assist in moving articles of more than twenty-five pounds. Must be able to squat, reach, stretch without distress, Must be able to tolerate extended periods walking, standing.
