Licensed Practical Nurse

Licensed practical nurses are considered leading front liners in the clinic or hospital setting. They assist nurses and doctors in conducting various activities related to sick or injured patients. Licensed practical nurses are primarily expected to provide routine care for patients and assist registered nurses in creating care plans. They maintain and update medical records, prepare patients for medical examinations, help patients dress, bath, or eat, take vital signs, administer and monitor medicine intake, monitor patients and update nurses and doctors on patient status, and assist during medical examinations.

Team Leader

Team leaders are responsible for managing a team for a specific project or work component. They primarily guide the team members and ensure that they are still working towards the set goals. Team leaders create strategies to reach goals, cascade the goals and strategies to team members, assign tasks, conduct periodic check-ups on the roadmap towards the goals, foster an engaging work environment, motivate and coach team members, monitor team performance, evaluate the strategies and come up with mitigating plans as needed. They are also responsible for reporting the team's progress to higher management.

Registered Nurse

The primary responsibilities of a registered nurse involve caring for a variety of patients, from ill and injured to those who are healthy and wanting to stay that way. Nurses have different specialization and work with particular patients, such as newborn babies or those who are suffering from particular medical conditions. They work on different settings which includes hospital, outpatient facility, rehabilitation center, nursing home, dialysis center, home healthcare agency, and other offices. Illustrated Career Paths For a Certified Nursing Assistant

Certified Nursing Assistant FAQs

Do CNAs get paid well?

No, CNAs do not get paid well. The national median annual salary for certified nursing assistants (CNA) is $30,830 a year or $14.82 per hour. Comparatively, the median annual salary for a registered nurse is $71,730 per year.

However, there is some variability in how much a CNA has the potential to make, which can range from $17,951 to $31,314 per year. Differences in pay rate for a CNA are related to factors such as type of CNA, location, and the number of years of experience.

For certified nursing assistants, the type of position and location have an influence on earning potential. For example, a CNA working in a government setting (e.g., VA hospital) earns the highest pay rate with a national average of $37,240, while home health care services have the lowest pay rate at $29,210.

Also, the state that you work in makes a difference. A CNA working in Alaska ($18.24 per hour) and New York ($16.87 per hour) earn the highest, while a CNA working in North Carolina, has the lowest average pay ($10.23 per hour).

The number of years of experience also has a small impact on earning potential. For example, an early career CNA with 1-4 years of experience earns an average of $12 an hour. A mid-career CNA with 5-9 years of experience earns $14 an hour. An experienced CNA with 10-19 years of experience earns an average of $15 based per hour.

Is a certified nursing assistant a good job?

Yes, being a certified nursing assistant is a good job. A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is a good job because it requires minimal training (8 to 12 weeks). CNA jobs are in demand. Once you become a CNA, there are many opportunities to move into more prestigious positions such as RN or LPN.

Most CNA programs require only a high school diploma or GED equivalent to qualify. The program ranges from 8 to 12 weeks and costs anywhere from $600 to $2000. Once you complete the program and pass the state examination (NNAAP), you can apply for entry-level positions.

A CNA plays an important position in any hospital setting and has many responsibilities that make them an integral part of the patient process in healthcare. The Better Business Bureau projects that employment for nursing assistants will grow 8% from 2019 to 2029.

Finally, while being a CNA does not make a lot of money (about $15 an hour), there are options. CNA is often considered an entry-level position and is a great stepping stone to other healthcare professions.
