Medical Assistant Position Overview:
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in patient care and support within our practice. Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management: Assist in managing medical supplies and equipment inventory, ensuring all necessary items are stocked and prepared for procedures. Ensure product charted matches product added as consumed which matches remaining product in fridge.
Collaboration: Work closely with the clinicians to ensure seamless patient flow and excellent patient experiences. Constant monitoring of front office and patient rooms to ensure needs are met where back log is most present.
Compliance: Uphold safety and hygiene standards in accordance with healthcare regulations, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
Appointment Management: Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments efficiently using our scheduling software. Ensure that the appointment calendar is organized, optimized, and up-to-date.
Payment Processing: Handle patient payments and inquiries accurately and confidentially.
Front Desk Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk area. Ensure that all necessary materials, forms, and supplies are readily available.
Communication: Collaborate effectively with the team to relay important patient information and ensure seamless patient flow.
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar clinical role is required; experience in medical aesthetics is a plus.
Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.

Clients are supported by a team of behavioral health professionals who provide counseling and education for substance abuse disorders, life skills, as well as individual and group therapy.
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an integral part of this interdisciplinary team that supports our clients in navigating evidence-based treatment plans and the healthcare system. The LVN will work with the Health and Wellness team in collaboration with the Addiction Medicine team in the provision of treatment with Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) for clients with Opiate Use Disorder (OUD) and other substance use disorders (SUD). The LVN will provide support of treatment adherence via client education that assists them in developing strategies for taking their medication regularly and effectively. This position is also expected to Coordinate care for clients with the residential behavioral health team, the addiction medicine team, primary care, and other internal and external healthcare resources for the client. The LVN will utilizee the Nursing Process, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care modalities in all actions taken to advocate for and support the client in their planning and goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION SUMMARY : The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors.

Ensure that the resident's room is ready for receiving the resident (i.e., bed made, name tags up, admission kit available, etc.).
Greet residents and escort them to their room.
Introduce resident to his/her roommate, if any, and other residents and personnel as appropriate.
Inventory and mark the resident's personal possessions as instructed.
Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area and assist with loading/unloading residents from vehicles as necessary.
Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisors.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
Report all complaints and grievances made by the resident.
Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals to your supervisor.
Participate in and receive the nursing report upon reporting for duty.
Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
Assist residents with daily dental and mouth care (i.e., brushing teeth/dentures, oral hygiene, special mouth care, etc.).

Maintain intake and output records as instructed.
Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
Change dressings, bandages, binders, etc., as instructed.
Provide eye and ear care (i.e., warm/cold compresses, eye/ear instillation, cleaning eyeglasses/hearing aides, etc.) as instructed.
Answer resident calls promptly.
Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
Check each resident routinely to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met in accordance with his/her wishes.
Observe and report the presence of pressure areas and skin breakdowns to prevent pressure ulcers (bedsores).
Report injuries of an unknown source, including skin tears.
Turn bedfast residents at least every two (2) hours.
Perform special treatment as instructed.
Prepare residents for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, comb hair, raise bed, position tables, place bibs, take to/from dining room, etc.).
Serve food trays. Assist with feeding as indicated (i.e., cutting foods, feeding, assist in dining room supervision, etc.).
Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water (on each shift) and within easy reach of the resident.
Serve between meal and bedtime snacks.
Participate in appropriate in-service training programs prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood/body fluids.
Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident.
Immediately notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of any resident leaving/missing from the facility.
Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
Keep excess supplies and equipment off the floor. Store in designated areas.
Wash wheelchairs, walkers, etc., as instructed.
Clean, disinfect, and return all resident care equipment to its designated storage area after each use.
Perform routine housekeeping duties (i.e., clean bedrails, overbed table, night stand, etc., that relate to nursing care procedures).
Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse immediately.
Report all safety violations.
Follow established isolation precautions and procedures.

Ensure that you treat all residents fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
Knock before entering the resident's room.
Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
Honor the resident's refusal of treatment request. Report such requests to your supervisor.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Under the general supervision of the Back Office Supervisor, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting medical providers by completing basic clerical and clinical tasks utilizing Electronic Health Record systems.
Administrative
Utilize an Electronic Health Record system to document patient registration, chief complaint, vital signs, review of systems, medication and health history, community health measures, including tobacco use and patient tracking.
Assist in patient flow by timely rooming of patients and maintaining an awareness of exam room availability and timing.
Perform patient discharge activities, including but not limited to completion of referral forms, instructions regarding filling prescriptions, making appointments, copying forms and other activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Clinical
Prepare exam rooms before and after patient examinations according to clinic infection control procedures.
Perform injection of vaccines and basic in-clinic lab tests including but not limited to urine dipstick, hemoglobin A1C, regular hemoglobin, rapid strep, pregnancy test and glucose level tests as ordered by provider.
Perform EKG, ear lavage, audiometry testing and other tests as necessary.
Assist practitioners during examinations as needed.
Provide patient education and information as instructed by clinic practitioners and clinic protocols.
Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.
Medical Office Maintenance
Maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and forms in clinic areas and at the MA Station, checking supply levels regularly.
Clean, sterilize and stock reusable instruments, as needed.
Test medical and laboratory equipment in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Keep all clinic areas neat and clean at all times to maintain a professional look.

Job Description

The Role
As a Medical Assistant at Sonoma State University's Student Health Center (SHC), you'll be a vital member of a close-knit, skilled, and collaborative medical team that values excellence, dependability, empathy, inclusion, teamwork, and overall well-being. Reporting to the Associate Director of the SHC and the Lead Physician, and working under the supervision of licensed clinicians, you will provide both clinical and administrative support that enhances the health and success of our students. Most of your time will be spent delivering direct patient care while also contributing to front-office functions such as patient reception and scheduling. Beyond clinical care, you'll have opportunities to engage in quality improvement initiatives and outreach efforts. In this role, you'll ensure patient-centered, evidence-based, safe, and efficient care in compliance with California Medical Board regulations, CSU policy, and SHC protocols - making a lasting impact on the health and success of SSU students.
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you must be a certified Medical Assistant in the State of California. Strong interpersonal and communication skills-both written and verbal-are essential. You should be comfortable using computers and electronic health records. Experience working in higher education and an interest in serving students from historically marginalized communities is highly preferred.
This position requires successful completion of a livescan background check.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt probationary position scheduled to work 11 months each year. The compensation for the 11 months of work will be paid out over 12 months with the month of July observed off. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $51,036 (Step 7) annually.
In accordance with the California State University 11/12 pay plan, the salary earned for months worked will ultimately be pro-rated to an 11/12 salary schedule and paid over 12 months in equal increments, with benefits covered for the entire 12 months. Under the 11/12 schedule, the salary placement will not exceed $3,531 - $3,899 per month, paid over 12 months with continuous benefits eligibility. Should the starting date not coincide with a standard 11/12 pay plan cycle, the employee will start at an equivalent full time 12-month salary rate with the month of July off unpaid and be converted to the 11/12 rate in August 2026 with benefits covered for the entire 12 months moving forward.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
