Job Summary:
Provides direct assistance to surgeons before, during and after surgical procedures.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
Implements physicians orders to provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning and irrigation.
Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems.
Applies the existing body of evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient's age-specific needs and clinical needs as described in the department's Scope of Service.
As an SSM Health nurse, I will demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide his/her response to the current and evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and our patient populations.
Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Completion of an RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program or RNFA Education Equivalency for RNFA Certification
Effective January 1, 2020, the education level for entry into an RNFA program and, subsequently, RNFA practice will be the baccalaureate degree. AORN recommends that RNs who were practicing as RNFAs prior to January 1, 2020, who do not have a baccalaureate degree be permitted to continue to practice as RNFAs
EXPERIENCE
Two years' registered nurse experience in an advanced surgical specialty
Or an APRN that has completed the RNFA program that meets the AORN standards for RN first assistant education program
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Assist with orienting residents and their families to the nursing home upon admission and to the unit when transfers occur.

Requirements:
At least 16 years of age.
Active license as a Certified Nursing Assistant with State of WI (or ability to obtain).
Commitment to quality programs and services for the residents/patients/clients.

Ability to relate well to the residents/patients/clients, family members / personal representatives.
Ability to maintain and protect the confidentiality of information.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions and exhibit flexibility when needed.

Essential Job Duties Responsibilities (CNA)
* Attend to the individual needs of residents which may include assistance in personal and oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, or other needs not listed.
* Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel.
* Provide care that maintains each resident's skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin, etc.
* Answer residents' call lights promptly and courteously.
* Perform various tasks assigned by the charge nurse including vital signs, residents' weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc.
* Assist with orienting residents and their families to the nursing home upon admission and to the unit when transfers occur.
* Lift, move, and transport residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
* Communicate and interact effectively and respectfully with the residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
* Document care provided or other information in keeping with department policies.
