The Pharmacy Technician Assists pharmacist(s) in all areas of pharmacy operations including prescription preparation, sales transactions, customer service, and purchasing and inventory. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Organizes prescription orders on the counter in order of priority; retrieves labels from the printer; arranges paperwork labels monographs and bags; uses appropriate stamps and notes; and retrieves stock from the shelf.
Performs phone and face-to-face customer service functions such as: taking in refill requests new prescriptions calls doctors for refill authorizations and pre-authorizations. Troubleshoots patients' questions and concerns.
Prepares prescriptions for dispensing: counts and verifies medication labels vials appropriately and prioritizes waiters.
Processes cash check credit card and payroll deduction transactions; secures appropriate signatures; ensures compliance with HIPAA requirements; prepares delivery tickets; reconciles delivery transactions; performs end of day register procedures; runs daily cash report and completes deposits as assigned.
Processes refills and performs data entry of new prescriptions including demographics insurance plans and prescription information under the supervision of a pharmacist and according to policy; brings to the attention of a pharmacist any claims requiring overrides or interventions; troubleshoots insurance claim rejects; and follows up on problem prescriptions.
Receives checks and puts away the daily order; returns medication to the shelf after filling; follows established inventory management procedures; participates in physical inventory process at intervals determined by management.
Greets customers immediately either in person or within three rings via telephone; performs intake of refill requests and new prescriptions gathers patient demographics and insurance information; clearly marks and prioritizes waiting customers. Monitors the waiting room by making sure they know who is waiting and whom they are waiting for.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

6 months pharmacy technician experience in a retail setting or equivalent training required
Licenses and Certifications
Must have successfully completed the pharmacy technician certification through the nationally accredited certification examination of PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) within 180 Days required or
the ExCPT (Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians) within 180 Days required and
Pharmacy technician licensure or registration as required by the state where the pharmacy is located is required

The pharmacy technician works under the direction of the health plan pharmacists to facilitate the safe and effective use of medications by enrollees/members and their providers. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Facilitates the accurate and timely processing of medication prior authorization requests.
Communicates with patients providers and dispensing pharmacies to support medication-related requests and other departmental initiatives.
Collects all pertinent information for Medical Reviewers (Medical Directors and Health Plan pharmacists) to complete medication prior authorization clinical evaluation.
Supports regulatory requirements under the supervision of the health plan pharmacist. NCQA - Completes letter mailings and other outreach in accordance with NCQA accreditation standards for drug safety recalls market withdrawals and formulary change notifications. Annotates and prepares audit materials for reaccreditation process. CMS - Reviews monthly retrospective opioid retrospective DUR reports and action outreach in accordance with Federal Regulations. Prepares draft responses of annual CMS Audit report and submits finalized reports prior to deadline. MDH/DHCF -- Prepares and maintains any jurisdiction-specific required audits reporting presentations and/or tracking activities within designated timeframes. Supports ad hoc auditing activities as assigned.
Completes delegated Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee activities: drafts presentation content as assigned; creates and records meeting minutes tracks attendance; drafts meeting minutes for review and approval by Committee Chairperson; communicates meeting-related content to stakeholders; maintains internal formulary tracking database; prepares and posts quarter formulary change summaries; prepares and distributes formulary change notifications for providers and Enrollees/Members.
Pharmacy Operations activities. Reviews and finalizes monthly quarterly and annual PBM reports. Supports maintenance of PA metrics dashboard. Serves as a liaison between MedStar Family Choice and PBM representatives.

General Summary of Position

Brings to the attention of a pharmacist any claims requiring overrides. Troubleshoots insurance claim rejects and follows up on problem prescriptions.
* Collaborates with social worker nursing physicians and other pharmacy staff to troubleshoot any issues requiring intervention including prior authorizations clarifications re-writes referrals and alterative medications.
* Works with all members of a patient's healthcare team to secure prescriptions in advance of discharge ensuring that prescriptions are either brought or sent to the pharmacy for filling.
* Attends daily/weekly/monthly meetings with interdisciplinary teams to grow the program through promotional events education and relationship building.
