+ Under the general supervision of the Pharmacist in Charge and a registered Pharmacist, performs a variety of duties essential to the purchasing, preparation, distribution and charging of medications. Cancer Center Technician assists PIC in maintaining cost effective use of resources and matching of worked and resources to provide and advance pharmacy services. Must be able to perform functions required in the pharmacy and sterile compounding areas of the cancer center. Must be able to perform functions related to maintaining automated medication dispensing Cabinets and pharmacy related technology. + Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort

+ Schedule includes daily shifts Monday through Friday during clinic operating hours. Must be attentive to detail. Stress from deadlines strict regulations, and multi-tasking. Prolonged standing or walking. Regular lifting of supplies/equipment up to 25 pounds. Involves use of syringe/needle manipulations for preparation of hazardous and intravenous therapies. Involves the handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous medications that could pose reproductive risks to those of child bearing age. The tasks of this job do not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing supplemental tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. independently. Involves the handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous medications that could pose reproductive risks to those of child bearing age.

+ Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents

+ Education: High School graduate or equivalent are required. Must maintain required 20 bi-annual hours of CEUs for continued PTCB certification. Must possess chemotherapy preparation certification upon hire or within first 30 days of hire. Completion of Pharmacy Tech training or Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in applicable Health Science Program is preferred.

+ Experience: One (1) year hospital pharmacy technician experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Sterile compounding experience is required with some experience in the handling of hazardous compounds being preferred. Basic algebra skills required to perform pharmaceutical calculations.

+ EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: Typing skills and computer experience required.

+ KY Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required. Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) required.

This job delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures. This job refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels as necessary; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing when orders need clarification or to request patient information (i.e. allergies, height, weight) when needed; accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Job Duties
Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas. Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds and enters TPN orders into the computer system. Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
