A Brief Overview
Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist by performing technical functions associated with drug distribution in accordance with specific provisions, standards, and State and Federal laws and regulations. Depending upon assignment, the principal areas of drug distribution may include unit dose, intravenous and oral drug compounding, TPN preparation, inventory control, automated dispensing equipment and related duties, as required. Customer service, teamwork and communication are important job functions.
Essential Functions
Compounds and/or prepares medications (non-sterile & sterile products, oral, topical, etc) including all hazardous medications safely and accurately in a timely manner.
Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with USP 795, 797 and 800 standards and other regulatory requirements which allow safe and accurate preparation and/or compounding of medications. This includes regular documentation of tasks in record-keeping systems.
Delivers, exchanges medications to the respective patient care area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy
Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services
Operates and supports automated dispensing technology
Appropriately utilizes and manages technology used in the day-to-day preparation, labeling and delivery of pharmaceutical care
Responsible for maintaining established stock levels of medications and supplies within the pharmacy as well as patient care areas.
Rotates inventory and completes expiration date management
Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas
Participates in a variety of process improvement initiatives
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Follow master formulation records (MFR's) and prepare compounding records (CR's) for each batch

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Specialty Pharmacy Technician in our Specialty Pharmacy Program. The Specialty Pharmacy Program operates out of two locations; the Durham Outpatient Center pharmacy and HUB pharmacy, though this role will be located at the Durham Outpatient Center.
Our Specialty Pharmacy Program is designed to streamline patient care for a group of complex medication therapies that require very specific monitoring and follow up. The Nebraska Medicine specialty pharmacy program is a partnership with Nebraska Medicine Specialty Providers and the outpatient specialty pharmacy team. The collaborative effort is designed to eliminate barriers to specialty medication access and provide optimal pharmacy services focused on quality and safety. The Specialty Pharmacy at Nebraska Medicine was the first URAC accredited specialty pharmacy in the state of Nebraska and one of the first academic medical centers nationally.

Duties: Pharmacy Technician - Specialty
Assist the specialty pharmacist with preparation, compounding and dispensing of medications for patients receiving prescriptions services from the Specialty Pharmacy. Assist the specialty pharmacists with claims processing, inventory management, and all necessary reporting requirements to maintain URAC Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation and access to a network of limited distribution drugs.
Minimum Requirements: Pharmacy Technician - Specialty
• Minimum of one year of pharmacy technician experience required.
• Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required.
• High school education or equivalent required.
• Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand held calculator required.
• Exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail and effective problem solving skills required.

The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of distributive functions which require preparing, filling and restocking medications and supplies. Activities include, but not limited to, stocking automated dispensing cabinets, emergency medication carts, medication kits and trays, and pharmacy supplies.
EDUCATION: GED or High School Diploma required.
REGISTRATIONS: Registration as a pharmacy technician required prior to start date. Certified pharmacy technician will be required within one year of original registration.
