Qualifications

* Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Bachelor's Degree, required.
* Experience: One year of relevant phlebotomy experience, preferred.
* Licensure/Certification: ASCP, ASPT, AMT or NHA, required.
* Additional Skills (required): Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.

Texana Center certified phlebotomist job description

The Certified Phlebotomist is a part time positon supervised and reports to the Nursing Coordinator. This position provides phlebotomy services on lab days at each BH Clinic. This position requires completing other tasks within the scope of experience and certification. The Certified Phlebotomist is also responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the compliance policy as required. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team within a multi-faceted mental health care delivery system. This position is 3 days a week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Hours are 7:30AM-12:30pm with flexibility to meet program needs as requested by the Nursing Coordinator. Travel from location to location is required.

Required Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

  • Certified to provide phlebotomy services
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant
  • Texas driver’s license in good standing as defined by Texana Center’s procedure
  • One year of experience providing phlebotomy services and medical assistant services

Preferred Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

  • Minimum of one year experience working in the mental health field
  • Current SAMA certification
  • Current CPR certification
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Spanish speaking

Job Related Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform SAMA and CPR.
  • Must be able to perform moderate lifting and carrying (15-44#), pushing, stooping, repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, simple grasping, hearing, walking, sitting and twisting.
  • Must have ability to see, write, operate office equipment, operate a motor vehicle and have depth perception.

Under the general supervision of the manager, the Certified Phlebotomist performs blood collection procedures, including venipuncture, skin puncture and special collection procedures. Responsibilities include collecting, receiving, and distributing laboratory specimens and logging specimen collection information. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and developmental issues of the patient population(s) being served.
