SURGERY The Surgical Assistant (SA) will be responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients based on established standards. The SA will collaborate with the surgeon in performing an operative procedure in a safe manner with optimal outcomes for the patient whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised. The Surgical Assistant (SA) will be responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients based on established standards. The SA will collaborate with the surgeon in performing an operative procedure in a safe manner with optimal outcomes for the patient whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised. Conduct orthotic and prosthetic clinics for local organizations; participate in orthopedic clinics and continuing education courses. Establish prosthetic clinics to include treatment teams on patient progress and techniques. Oversee orthotic fitters and technicians and liaisons, as needed Perform on-call duties as assigned and scheduled Other duties as assigned Work Environment Possible exposure to contagious diseases, communicable diseases, or blood-borne pathogens. May work in homes, community, schools, job sites, clinics or in a normal patient care environment in an acute hospital setting.
