1. Conducts physician prescribed Respiratory Care treatments and procedures.

2. Conducts regular rounds, checking patient 02 supplies and equipment, documenting as necessary, and completing patient charges.

3. Reports patient and department information to the next shift.

4. Sets up and monitors patients on continuous ventilation.

5. Responsible for performing arterial puncture procedures, sample collection and analysis, Quality Control, Proficiency testing, problem solving skills.

6. Will function as a member of the Code 3 team.

7. Performs nasotracheal and tracheal suctioning.

8. May perform cardiac compressions.

9. Explains the purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patient.

10. Records all pertinent information of therapy and patient response on Respiratory Care records and patient chart.

11. Processes Respiratory Care equipment, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and packaging as required.

12. Performs quality control procedures on Respiratory Care equipment.

13. Performs preventative maintenance and repair of equipment on a timely basis.

14. Maintains department in a clean, safe, neat, and orderly condition.

15. Provides clinical instruction for the Respiratory Care students.

16. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety procedures.

17. Attends meetings as required.

18. Assist with deliveries and c-sections.

19. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Has graduated from an AMA accredited Certification Program.

LICENSE: Maintains a current Respiratory Care Practitioner license with the state of Missouri.

CREDENTIALS: Certified or certified eligible.

EXPERIENCE: Preferably has a minimum of one year clinical experience.

SPECIAL:

PATIENT CONTACT: Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

MACHINE OPERATION: Basic knowledge of keyboard and computer, ventilators, pulmonary function equipment, pulse-oximeters, gas cylinders, regulators, and gauges.

PHYSICAL:

STANDING: Moderate amount, doing patient care and working with equipment.

WALKING: Moderate amount, walking to different areas of the hospital to do patient care and patient teaching, hospital rounds, and QA monitoring.

LIFTING: Pushes, pulls or moves heavy equipment, gas cylinders and supplies. Assists in lifting, moving and turning patients for tests and procedures.

VISUAL: Must have good eye sight for close work, to be able to read charts for orders, document patient information in the chart, must be able to draw up medications to administer with respiratory treatments, be able to recognize patients in respiratory distress (patient color and respirations), must be able to draw blood from an artery or arterial line. Be able to read monitors on critical care equipment and be able to adjust controls and perform calibrations as needed.

HEARING: Must have good hearing; be able to hear pages (stat calls and codes), answer the telephone, take verbal orders, respond to patients and their families requests, and to be able to communicate with the physicians and other health care team members.

SPEAKING: Must have clear speech to communicate with nursing, physicians, other health care workers, all fellow employees, patients and their families and visitors.

Night Shift 6p-6:30a

The Respiratory Therapist evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. This position practices under the direction of a physician. "Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications. Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities to include: Small Volume Nebulizer (SVN), Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI, Invasive and non-invasive Ventilator Management, , Oxygen Therapy, Lung volume expansion protocols, ventilator weaning protocols. Performs arterial punctures using radial, brachial, and femoral sites independently. Draws off arterial lines to obtain sample for blood gas analysis. Performs all aspects of artificial airway care. Sets up and maintenance of infant oxygen devices, and mechanical ventilators. Familiar with oxygen delivery systems (i.e., nasal, Heated High Flow Nasal Canulas, venuturi mask, Heated tracheostomy masks). Responsible for the set up, safety check, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators Maintains accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patient's charts. Participates in reporting patient progress, and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift. Be a member of the ""code team"" responding to arrest situations and CAT calls. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters."

+ Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy or Graduate of a certification level training program in the field of Respiratory Therapy with current CRT credential
+ Clinical rotations from an accredited respiratory practitioner program

+ Current Florida Respiratory License

+ BLS through American Heart Association

+ NRP required within six (6) months of hire/transfer

+ Must pass Level 2 background screening

+ Demonstrated current theoretic and clinical expertise with respect to community Respiratory Therapy Practices and education

+ Knowledge of methods of oxygen delivery and side effects

• Perform and document an initial exam, evaluating the data to identify problems and determine a treatment diagnosis prior to intervention
• Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed program to improve or restore physical function, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients
• Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit
• Administer treatment interventions including but not limited to functional activities, therapeutic exercise, heat, cold, hydrotherapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, aquatic therapy, manual exercises, massage, and traction to help relieve pain, increase the patient's strength, increase function, and decrease or prevent deformity and crippling
• Assess for, fabricates and adjusts standards and custom splints. Further educates patient and family in care and use
• Delegate aspects of patient treatment to a physical therapy assistant if CHT is a PT
• Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home
• Confer with the patient, medical practitioners and appropriate others to plan, implement and assess the intervention program
• Review physician's referral and patient's medical records to help determine evaluation procedures treatment required
• Document the initial evaluation, plan of care treatment, progress and discharge of patients accurately and timely
• Discharge patient from therapy when goals or projected outcomes have been attained and provide for appropriate follow up care or referrals
• Comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the Missouri Board of Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy, based on licensure of CHT
• Provide training and supervision in therapy for staff therapists related to specific knowledge and skills of CHT
• Participate in role of clinical instructor for students from accredited institutions
• Assist in goal of value based provider through control of expenses
• Assume responsibility for leadership roles in initiating and implementing new programs for the facility
• Assist in goal of unrelenting quality, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction
• Assume leadership roles in various aspects of the clinic's daily operations as requested by the Rehab manager or Director of Rehab
• Participate in community service, fundraising events, and informational programs as requested by Rehab manager or Director of Rehab
• Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the rehab managers and director
• Perform duties with respect, courtesy and kindness to achieve excellence in customer service

Become

• Current license as a professional Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist in the State of Missouri
• Certification in CPR through American Heart Association
• Completion of at least 30 hours of acceptable continuing education every two years for PT or completion of at least 24 hours of acceptable continuing education every two years for OT
• Must maintain certification as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission
• Must be able to read, write and speak English
