About the Role
As a Scopist, CertifiedReporter, you'll be responsible for reviewing final and near-final transcripts of legal proceedings against accompanying audio files to ensure the highest level of transcript accuracy and quality. This role combines precision, confidentiality, and collaboration in a fully remote environment where attention to detail directly impacts client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Review and proofread legal transcripts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, and formatting according to Esquire's style guides
Verify transcript content against audio to ensure a verbatim and error-free record
Prepare final transcripts by applying digital signatures and submitting for production
Maintain proper archival of files and complete all required reporting and logs
Prioritize and organize workload effectively to meet deadlines and accommodate changes
Support service partner programs by providing timely communication and quality assurance

Certified Electronic Reporter (CER) Jamison (“Jamison”) is currently seeking a qualified and motivated professional for the position of Certified Electronic Reporter. Court Reporter - Functions, Qualifications, and Skills:
Certified Electronic Reporter support services (remote and/or in-person) must be willing and available to travel for in-person requests for service.
Off-site support services can be provided through telephone, VTEL, VANTS, or Lync online services.
We do not require digital reporters to produce transcripts related to the proceedings they cover.
The CER shall read portions of the transcript during the investigation hearing at the investigator's or administrative judge's request, and ask speakers to clarify inaudible statements.
Candidate MUST be available to continue with the assignment if a proceeding lasts more than 1 day or lasts several days.
For travel outside your area, all travel expenses related to the assignment will be company paid.
Candidate must arrive at the designated location at least 30 minutes prior to the time of the designated hearing; in case of a telephonic investigation/hearing, candidates shall make telephone contact with the presiding official at least 30 minutes prior to the start time.
Candidate must be a licensed Notary Public and competent to administer oaths and carry Notary Public Errors and Omissions Insurance.
Immediately after the completion of the individual assignment, the recording is to be sent through our secured VPN Portal.
Certified Electronic Reporter shall be certified in accordance with state laws where the service is being performed. You must be able to provide the proper certification upon request.
The services will be performed ONLY when required by the customer. Please note: THIS IS NOT A FULL-TIME ASSIGNMENT/EMPLOYMENT.

JOB SUMMARY
This is a full-performance-level reporting position that requires the taking, transcribing and processing of verbatim court and other judicial proceedings via stenographically or utilizing voice writing equipment.
Work is performed by use of state-of-the-art computerized equipment to report, transcribe and edit proceedings prior to proofreading, certifying and distribution of transcripts to applicable parties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to operate a court reporting steno machine or voice writing equipment. Ability to record verbatim notes of testimony of court and other judicial proceedings; utilizes state-of-the-art computer-aided transcription and/or other equipment to produce transcripts; interrupts proceedings as necessary to ensure accuracy and completeness of the record; determines correct spelling of names, terminology and other specifics of testimony.
Transcribes notes of verbatim testimony; completes a separate sheet of names, addresses, terms used and other factual data from the testimony to ensure accuracy of spellings, language, etc; proofreads rough drafts and/or utilizes a proofreader at individual reporter's expense; makes corrections needed to produce timely and final transcripts to comply with Rule 4000. Processes data from computer-aided transcription devices; utilizes court-reporter-specific software program to translate either steno notes or voice notes into English; utilizes currently available computer hardware and techniques to produce a electronic and/or hard copy transcript directly from computer system. Be able to fill out billing forms within time limits and keep accurate and detailed records to comply with Rule 4000.
Be subject to a very flexible schedule with occasional reassignment at the last minute. Ability to sit for very long periods of time. Perform a variety of clerical and administrative tasks including answering of phones and basic scheduling requirements. Be willing to work as part of a team of reporters in order to fulfill the needs of all judicial officers of the court and possess excellent communication skills. Must have knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs, assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must possess tact, good judgment, poise, initiative and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
Possess excellent organizational skills to permit the production of transcripts within strict time limitations. Work well under pressure. Ensures accuracy of transcripts; maintains records on status of workload; provides necessary information to detail staff personnel for binding, lodging, filing, noticing and forwarding of transcripts to judges, attorneys and other authorized personnel, as outlined in current "How To Do It" manual; when questions arise, compare final transcript to original steno notes and/or voice notes of testimony and, if necessary, make additions, deletions, or supplementations to the record; catalogues and maintains records of notes, electronic and backup files and also maintains exhibits as required in the Exhibit Rule in assigned cases; performs related tasks as required.
Work remotely as required and function within the guidelines of the telecommuting policy.
OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES
Ability to communicate professionally with court, non-court personnel, and visitors.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Timely answer questions from various court offices when asking for clarification or assistance.
Ability to cover phone and general secretarial duties when assistance is needed during breaks and absences of secretarial staff.
A proofreader is required to check for accuracy within transcripts before final product is produced.
Must be able to implement Rule 4000 guidelines and abide by all conditions therein.
Be willing and able to work remotely within the requirements of the telecommuting guidelines when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education requirement is an RPR (Registered Professional Reporter) or NVRA (National Verbatim Reporters Association) certificate and/or Court Reporting associate's degree diploma and/or the meeting of minimum qualifications and skills for standard court reportingcertification: 225 Q&A, 200 jury charge, 180 literary - all at 95% accuracy.

Positions in this job family are responsible for recording and transcribing court proceedings.
This position is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is remote work eligible. However, the applicant will be required to be in office an average minimum of 25%, but this is subject to change. Typical Functions
Responsible for administrative duties as assigned including, but not limited to exhibit and docket handling.
Ability to learn and be proficient in the usage of OCC-specific technology including but not limited to Laserfiche (LF) and Electronic Case Filing (ECF.)
Ability to perform key functions in Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Education and Experience
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of Statutory Requirements 2 O.S. 1981, Section 106.3(B): Incumbents must be certified/licensed by the State Board of Examiners of Official ShorthandReporters; or if no certified or licensed reporters are available, an acting shorthandreporter temporarily certified by the Chief Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court may be employed for a period not to exceed a maximum of twelve (12) months.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required at this level include knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar, terms and vocabulary employed in legal work, courtroom procedures, and proper procedures for obtaining verbatim recordings of courtroom testimony. Applicants are required to learn and proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite applications.

The OCC has developed its own Electronic Case Filing system (ECF) which the court reporters utilize daily. An OCC court reporter must be able to learn how to use OCC-specific technology. The OCC will provide selected applicants with training pertaining to OCC-specific technology. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to focus and sit for long periods of time. Applicants are required to be highly organized and maintain their own file organization.
Core work hours for an OCC court reporter are Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. This schedule may require flexibility based on the needs of the agency. This position requires extensive periods of sitting and lack of movement; requires the applicant to utilize his/her hands in repetitive typing motions for the full period of work; and generally, works independently of others.

In completing the duties and responsibilities of this position, the Court expects the incumbent will adhere to all Court policies, guidelines, practices and procedures; act as a role model both inside and outside the Court; perform duties as workload necessitates in a timely, accurate and thorough manner; be conscientious about meeting department productivity standards; and communicate regularly with supervisor about department issues.

Complete and maintain a witness log of all evidentiary hearings.
Maintain a log of all notes for immediate retrieval as well as preserving notes, exhibits, and transcripts in accordance with the Court's evidence retention standards.
Create exhibit log during Court proceedings.
As requested during proceedings read back testimony from notes.
Mark and maintain exhibits during proceedings.
Retain, file, and log all offered and admitted exhibits for immediate retrieval during proceedings and for appellate proposes.
Complete necessary paperwork pertaining to contraband and other valuable materials.
Seal or expunge notes, exhibits, and transcripts as directed by the Court.
Prepare accurate certified transcripts.
