Job Description
The Float Pool Registered Nurse (FPRN) II is a flexible and experienced professional RN who is competent to work within the following specialty groups as indicated.
The FPRN II is an expert clinical nurse who utilizes the nursing process to provide safe and therapeutic care to emergent and critically ill and injured patients. S/he functions as a productive member of the interdisciplinary team, carries out established policies, procedures and standards to meet the needs of high acuity patients. S/he advocates forward movement of the mission, vision and values of the organization, i.e. promotes patient throughput, the optimal patient experience and integrates evidenced based nursing into clinical practice.
As a Registered Nurse III (FPRN II) in the Float Pool, you will be oriented to multiple inpatient departments. Our nursing float pool supplements staffing throughout the hospital based on need. Nurses who work in the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center float pool can float between multiple areas:

Expectations:
Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family. EDUCATION:

Purpose Statement/Position Summary
The Registered Nurse, under general supervision, conducts patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluates care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs. Collaborates with other health care team members in the delivery of care. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
The Operating Room (OR) is a 15 surgical operating room unit that provides 24/7 surgical care to children of all ages (neonate to adult) who are to undergo general anesthesia for operative or other invasive procedures, with an estimated surgical case volume of 17,000 surgical cases a year. We work with the following specialty groups to provide care: Anesthesiology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Cardiothoracic surgery, Dentistry, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, General pediatric surgery/Abdominal Transplant, Hematology/Oncology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Maxillofacial surgery, Pulmonology, and Urology.
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
1+ year experience as an Operating Room RN. Pediatric experience preferred. Broad knowledge of patient care principles and equipment; CHLA patient care policies and procedures. Ability to assess effectiveness of patient care; maintain a calm demeanor and assist in crises and emergencies; prioritize tasks for complex patient care; communicate tactfully, professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Education/Licensure/Certification
Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California and American Heart Association CPR/BLS/PALS certification required.

USD $104,395.00 - USD $171,506.00

The unit's specialized programs include the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program, a Whole-Body Therapeutic Hypothermia Program, complex surgical specialties, highly specialized ventilatory support & home ventilation program, neonatal and infant diagnostic and follow-up services.

Expectations:
Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family. The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a frontline perioperative registered nurse leader who functions in an expanded role, working in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve efficiency of operations. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care, including preoperative, intraoperative surgeon assistance, and postoperative care for all patient populations. Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, while maintaining the ability to function in additional roles including but not limited to circulating nurse, surgical scrub, and PFC when required. The RNFA does not concurrently function as an assistant and a surgical scrub or circulating RN. Maintains practice in accordance with organizational standardized procedures, scope of practice, credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification. This position requires flexibility of hours. The RNFA role exists to provide opportunity for surgical assistant practice over a period of two years to support achievement of certification requirements for progression to the CRNFA role.
Essential Job Functions:
Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to RN and RNFA activities. Serves as an educator, mentor, consultant, and resource to peers, colleagues, and others in relation to RNFA activities, RN and surgical scrub roles and responsibilities. Facilitates the delivery of patient care by working with team members to set up cases and meet OR schedule efficiencies. Demonstrates skills and judgment of an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures by adhering to organizational Standardized Procedure for RNFA, which may include, but is not limited to, activities such as providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques; handling and dissecting tissues in collaboration with the surgeon; clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, and ligating vessels in collaboration with the surgeon; placing drains as directed by the surgeon; and suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin in collaboration with the surgeon. Provides intraoperative care in accordance with industry standards as identified by AORN, organizational standardized procedures, and state board of nursing. Participates in preoperative assessment and planning for surgical patients specific to RNFA activities (eg, anatomical exposure, wound closure) in collaboration with perioperative team members.
