Challenger Sports company history timeline

1997

On October 1, 1997 Ron Matsch, Jim Jorgensen, Peter Arch and Alan Jones acquired the operations of ‘British Soccer Camps’ and created Challenger Sports.

2001

In 2001 Challenger established a sister company, Challenger Teamwear, to manufacture and sell soccer uniforms and equipment directly to the thousands of youth clubs who made up the rapidly growing US youth soccer community.

2006

2009

Challenger Sports acquired the TetraBrazil Soccer Academy in October 2009.

Initially launched in 2009, Richard set up GK Icon to provide innovative training specifically developed for goalkeepers, backed by professional players’ training methods.

2010

2010 saw Challenger Sports enhance its already popular Camps program for 3–4 year olds by enlisting the support of specialist childcare professionals to create a bespoke pre-school program.

2010 saw Challenger Sports enhance their activities for young children by enlisting the support of specialist childcare and sports professional, Chris Sharman.

2011

John Farnworth Freetstyle Soccer Camp, 2011

2012

In 2012 Challenger Sports partnered with Tony DiCicco and acquired his highly respected residential goalkeeping camp SoccerPlus.

2013

Challenger Lacrosse held its first practice on June 29, 2013.

On June 18, 2013, with some help from friends, Ray, Stephen and Thomas founded Challenger Athletics Inc., a 501(c)(3) New York Not-for-Profit organization dedicated to fostering the growth of children through sports.

2014

2014 saw Challenger Sports expand its goalkeeping division further as they partnered with former England International Goalkeeper Richard Lee and his innovative goalkeeping franchise GK Icon.
